Memory training for poetry and philosophy

I have read some, I guess you could call it theory, before I even have formulated a training plan. Now im ready though. The primary things that I would want to use my memory on is to remember poetry and philosophy, and I can spend half an hour a day practicing these. I am, in my practice plan, for about half an hour a day also practice the more general subject which I can use memory on (cards, names and the like). So in total, I am going to practice for one hour a day. The thing is though, I don’t know how I can develop my ability to remember poetry and philosophy, I don’t even know how in what way I should tackle these goals. I guess the question, really is: Is there a way to practice memorizing poetry and philosophy directly (if so, how?; and, what should I in this case practise first, speed or security?), or does the practice I put into memorizing for example words develop parts of my ability to memorize, as I said, poetry and philosohpy??

Hi,

Understanding the poetry and philosophy helps, like anything obviously, to remember each style of literature.

For poetry, try to see the easy stuff first: rhymes, meter, etc.

For philosophy, try to start with the premise and then the conclusions, ending with the final statement/meaning of the philosophy/philosopher.

Is there any way for me to develop my ability in remembering poetry, or philosohpy? How do I “train it”, so it go faster and safer?

Hi,

You can try simple and then more complex subject matter in either field.

Use the advice I’ve given you and work up to more complex poems/philosophy.

You have to actually memorize things in order to build speed.
Having an understanding about the gist of the poem/philosophy is indispensible.

I dont know. Maybe you can simplify. For example 4 ideas of each philosopher. Or one idea Per lime of a poem.
