Memory techniques for learning a new keyboard layout? ( i. e. Dvorak or Colemak )

Hello!
I am convinced that QWERTY is inefficient and the Colemak keyboard layout is better, so I would like to learn this new keyboard layout.

Does anyone have tips/ideas for how to speed up the process of learning this new keyboard layout using memory techniques?

I have tried associating pictures with certain keys (i.e. I imagine a turtle sitting on the “T” key), and that helps.

Does anyone else have other ideas?

Here is a great article I found. I would recommend skimming down to the section on “What worked”

Here is another useful article, skip down to the “using mnemonics section”.

If enough people are interested I have more thoughts on the subject.
