Memory path/palace

I live near a large cemetery with several routes I walk. Has anyone used something akin to cemeteries to construct memory journeys? Or do they present too much input to be effective? I’m new to practicing memory techniques.

I have several memory palaces in parks and I love them. Which I suppose is similar to a cemetery.

Things that help:

  • walk around a bit first to get to know the place, so you won’t stuck yourself in a corner. You need a path which doesn’t cross itself. Twists and turns are welcome, in fact they make the path easier to remember. You can come near a former section of your path, just don’t cross it
  • be careful to choose stations that are distinct enough, so that you don’t mix them up. Most of it is you looking around with this purpose (it can mean “enriching reality” a little bit).
  • for example, “a tree”, “another tree” and “a third tree” are not good stations. But “a tree with lots of birds who are going to bombard me with birds poop”, “a twisted tree that I decide is the whomping willow” and “a tree flourishing with so strong smelling flowers that my eyes water” these are stations that are going to work beautifully. You can very well add a layer to reality to suit your purpose
