Memory palaces: Not enough

I just got started with memorization skills, and i have chosen to try to the memory palace technique.
The thing is that i am planning to memorize A LOT of things, and the only place i am familiar with is my home but it wont be enough.
I found myself to be good at creating imaginary palaces and actually remembering them, but i would rather have something to remind me of the palace if i ever forget it, or decide to review the information. I prefer making up my own places so i remember them better, so i looked into design softwares but they seem too complicated and time consuming. Any suggestions?

First, here are some pages that you may like if you haven’t see them yet:

They have a lot of useful information.

If you create your very own memory palace, why not simply sketch its plan on a paper? or describe it with words:
First room: the bedroom 5loci:
loci 1: a round bed like some_url_.jpg
loci 2: the red curtain …

Second room, the kitchen 10loci

But if you use (or practice) your palace often enough, I doubt you will ever need to take a look at your notes!

You can use a few tricks to re-use a memory palace.

You can :

  • leave it time to fade away. You might get skills to selectively forget what you want to forget if you do it often… Personally, I’m good at forgetting
  • Destroy the objects. Walk through your palace and destroy every single image you set there. One the item is Burned, or pulverised, or teleported, etc. Focus on the emptyness of that loci.
  • Re-use the Palace by giving it a state. My grand-parent’s house holds Pi from 1-500, then I imagine it on fire, and there it holds Pi from 500 - 1000. Then I imagined it flooded, and I’ve started to place the golden ratio there.
Just like you need to prepare a palace before hand the first time you use it, you might want to prepare it for every state ; What’s special about it when it’s flooded? where does the water fall from? is there a river?
  • Use more items then the rooms themselves. If you have 10 items in a room, use all of them : Your left monitor, your right monitor, your mouse, keyboard, table, chair, powerbar, etc. Imagine you’re 10 cm tall if you must.
  • use “Massive Memory Palaces” https://artofmemory.com/forums/gavinos-massive-memory-palace-system-3189.html
For each of the items from the previous trick, imagine that it sends you to an other place.
  • use Video games. In games you need yo know the maps very well, you run in them, hunt, hide. It’s perfet to know every corners of the zone!

Sadly, I don’t use a lot of palaces myself… It’s the next thing on my TODO list tho!
