Memory palaces are physically tiring

Recently I have been using memory palaces a lot to store historical events and dates as I am approaching my exams, but this seems to be very tiring.

After a short while (about half an hour), I start to get very sleepy. This is a problem. Does this happen to everyone? How do I fix it? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi Speedcuber,

I have the same problem, and often it does not even take me 30 minutes to get really tired…

On one hand that’s a bit frustrating, because it makes my progress in learning very, very slow. But on the other hand I found out, that it helps me to sleep better if I do it in the evening/in bed. I have had problems falling asleep for almost all my life, so I’m happy about everything that helps me here.

I notice the same tiredness whenever I read scientific texts or books, even if I’m highly interested in the topic. I guess that it may have to do with the effort of staying focussed (which is always a bit difficult for me)?

Greetings,
Sunny

Hey guys,
Intense use of memory consumes sugar, you can actually lose a lot of weight just by thinking a lot :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyway when you start to run low on sugar you get tired and you start having trouble focusing.

To help avoid this or get your energy back is very simple… EAT!
Candy or chocolate usually helps quickly but not for very long, sucking on lollipops helps more because it releases sugar for a longer period of time.

You can probably find more info/tips on this using Google (it’s been a while since I’ve read these things so I’ve only given the cliff-notes of what I remember).

hope it helps
