Memory Palace

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to improve how I use memory palaces for competitive exam preparation, and I have a few questions:

  1. How do you create and expand multiple memory palaces for large syllabi?

  2. Do you mainly use real physical locations, imagined places, or a mix of both for loci?

  3. Roughly how many memory palaces do you personally use while preparing for competitive exams?

  4. How do you organize them—by subject, by chapter, or by topic? Which system is most effective in practice?

  5. How do you manage large GK (General Knowledge) content using loci without mixing or confusing information?

  6. Is there any indexing system you use to quickly locate and revise specific memory palaces?

  7. How do you compress multiple facts into a single locus while still keeping recall clear and accurate?

  8. How do you combine understanding with memory palace techniques so the knowledge is actually useful in exams, not just memorized?

  9. For those who have used this for exams like UPSC/Loksewa/banking, what does your daily workflow look like?

  10. What are the most common mistakes beginners make when scaling memory palaces for serious exam preparation?

Good questions. I try to separate the study techiques from memory. For a difficult exam you have to be sure that there are no mistakes before memorising. And you have to practise a lot to be sure.
