Memory League Season 24 - REGISTRATION CLOSED

Hi Matteo, just some thoughts from my side:

You say you had this rationale just for your last two videos. That means you did not upload your first three videos, as you say, “out of laziness”. That also means you were already removed after the third missed deadline. It did not matter whether you uploaded or not uploaded video 4 and 5 because the rules already set those to 0-4. That Simon Orton only recalled a bit later that three missed deadlines means removal is not significant.

Being removed has the consequence that all matches are set to 0-4 which automatically means that that person has last place in their division (red spot). And a player on a red spot is relegated, without the chance of a relegation match.

I feel that is also a reasonable consequence:

If there was a difference between removal and just placing last, a player could always make an “escape into removal” if the season does not go well:

Let’s say someone has played all their 5 matches and they are last based on their results. In addition, they have already missed the video deadlines for match 3 and 4. If removal would mean one could stay in their division, a paradoxical situation would ensue:

If the player does upload video 5, they are relegated to the lower division. But if they do not upload video 5 (= break the rules), they are “only” removed and can stay in the league. An absurd consequence.

By the way, for those div. 2 players worrying about a stronger player in their division: whichever subdivision has Matteo in it will have two green spots (direct advancement to div. 1) instead of one and also the usual yellow spot (relegation match between div. 1 and div. 2). That means from your perspective the strong player basically has no consequence, you will still be competing among yourselves for one green spot and one yellow spot as usual.

As a final note, checking videos and asking people to upload is quite a lot of work for the supervisor team, and not doing that disturbs the whole process and also creates a competitive imbalance in the division itself (which, I think, lead to quite some discontent in div. 1b). To my understanding, that it why the line is drawn at 3 missed video deadlines max.

I hope that perspectice was helpful. It would be great if officials like @Simon and @Hannes could chip in.

actually i just saw the dates of my matches and simon reset my points after 2 videos not uploaded. so my speech applies to the last 3 videos.

i don’t think that the precedent of “escape into removal” is created because i would have arrived in the first four positions. the removal from the season has already prevented me from obtaining potentially very useful points for the worldranking. i don’t want to say that a player just because he is strong shouldn’t be penalized. since we are a small community i just think that we can afford to analyze a single case.

I know, for sure in future i ll make their life easier in any case.
Now before starting to schedule the matches i would like to hear again the opinion of everyone and aldo @Simon and @Hannes

In the registration thread it says:

“Videos must be uploaded within 7 days of the match. If you do not provide the video within 7 days, you will forfeit the match 0-4. Please upload your video, even if you lost the match 0-4. Competitors who fail to upload a video for 3 matches will be removed from the season.”

So basically, if you don’t upload a video, you automatically lose that match 0-4. Since no videos were uploaded, it’s fair to say those matches were lost by default, which would explain the relegation.

Now, you could argue that after missing three uploads, you should’ve been removed from the season—meaning the rest of the matches shouldn’t count as losses. But that doesn’t really make sense. The rule about being removed is clearly meant to keep the league running smoothly—not to create a way to dodge relegation. Otherwise, anyone with a bad season could just stop uploading, get removed, and return next season in the same division. That would kind of break the system.

I’d also like to say I really appreciate your openness. You could’ve made excuses, but instead you admitted being too lazy, which I respect. That level of honesty is rare and speaks well of you—even if it doesn’t change the point. I’m pretty sure that kind of reflection means you won’t let it happen again.

Last but not least, I personally believe that being removed from the season—no matter the reason—should always lead to relegation. That way, only players who really want to participate and commit end up in the divisions. Of course, exceptions can be made in rare cases where someone drops out due to serious personal circumstances.

Great that you are interested! Really sorry, the season has already started. Maybe @Simon can still add you to division 5, not sure.

Oh my dear how kind you are.

great, if that’s possible I want to participate as well whatever division you put me into even div 5 is okay.
well, I accept that I am late, so if it’s not possible then I have no objection.

Thanks.

I guess that’s not possible, better luck next time :victory_hand:
