That’s a really good idea to include non-adjacent information. I’ll try it out. Also, You’ve really helped me out often whenever I had questions! Thanks
Day 11
- Read: My goal is to read 300 pages.
- Names and Faces: Yesterday, I tried to memorize the names and faces of American presidents, but it went horribly wrong. I could easily remember the names, but I struggled to connect the faces with the names. I mixed up Van Buren with Quincy Adams, and it took me ages to try to memorize this. Do you have any tips or videos I could watch to improve my skills?
I’m a bit sick today, so this is all I’m going to do. I planned a break every 12 days, so this one is a bit early. I also want to revise everything I learned in physics
I tried to use shapes, like triangles, in each room and use the points as loci. It worked somewhat okay, but is this a good idea, or should I avoid it?
5 min numbers: 66 but for the first time i had no mistake
It’s always worth experimenting. Personally I find shapes alone are pretty poor memory material, but objects that more or less fit within a shape work well. Pizza slice, watermelon slice, half of a sandwich (obviously I’m just hungry), whatever you call those triangle rulers, etc.
Are you reviewing at all?
Food for thought, I typically use shapes to remember the “length” or “how many items” are in a memorized section.
A simplified “checksum” object.
“Oh yeah, I arranged this explicitly in the shape of a Triangle. So if I only remember 2 items, I know I forgot one. If I remember 4, I know I’m remembering something incorrectly.”
“Oh yeah, I put a cross here at the entrance to this palace (2D crosses are 12-sided/dodecagons). This list (or level of a hierarchy) will have exactly 12 items.”
A simple visual representation for an amount. Very handy imo.
Yeah, I see what you mean. I just tried it, and for now, this works way better than just shapes. And yes, I review. I’m very inconsistent with reviewing, but I try to do it.
Yes, this has happened to me as well. Sometimes, for reasons I can’t quite understand, I mix up triangles with rectangles and vice versa. I really dont know how
That is nice. I really like the idea of having a checksum like that.
Have you tried using specific objects as opposed to abstract “shapes”?
Examples:
- a “Tri-force” (à la Zelda) or 2D “Pyramid” or 2D “funnel” rather than a “triangle shape”.
- a Billboard or Picture Frame or a 2D Diamond road sign instead of a “square shape”
- (a 4 sided diamond is just a square/rectangle standing on one of its points)

- (a 4 sided diamond is just a square/rectangle standing on one of its points)
I just tried to memorize a part of the swiss “bundesverfassung” with these elements, and it worked wonderfully! Everything was perfectly organized, and I didn’t forget any of the objects I placed. I also mixed in some foods like pizza etc. It worked even with more complex objects and characters, like Sonic, using his eyes, nose, and other features as loci.
Nice!
One of my palaces is Ernie (of Bert and Ernie).
Well, Ernie’s face to be specific.
Is where I keep some information on Python’s errno module. ![]()
Day 12
I did nothing crazy today
- Read: Continued reading my book
- Meditation: In the book I am currently reading, the topic of meditation came up, and I will try to practice it every day for 5 or even 10 minutes. I had never thought of doing that, but here I am.
- Review: I reviewed all the elements in the periodic table, pages 1-150 that I learned in my physics book, and reviewed Morse code.
- Physics: I did about 1h Physics. I memorized all the most important formulas and continued
- Federal Constitution: Normally, I memorize 1 poem per day, but I never really enjoyed it. So yesterday, I started memorizing the Swiss Federal Constitution verbatim. Today, I reviewed what I had memorized and continued.
5 min numbers: 64 still bad
Day 13
It’s my last day in Cyprus, so tomorrow on my flight back, I’ll try to create my PAO system for numbers between 00 and 99 and continue memorizing the Swiss Constitution.
- Read: Continued reading my book.
- Physics: Reviewed the formulas and continued studying.
- Federal Constitution: Continued memorizing the Federal Constitution verbatim, and most importantly, I need to be more precise (and faster). I still mix up the structure of the sentences and sometimes use different words. I managed to memorize about 150 words today, but I want to reach about 500.
5 min numbers: Again 64
You’ve got quite the enthusiasm, getting the elements down is a bigger achievement than you might realize. The cool thing is, there is lots of opportunity to experiment with adding on more and more information with each element.
Day 14
- Read: Continued reading my book.
- Anki: I had already downloaded Anki some time ago, but today I made flashcards for everything I learned. I still have to put the Swiss Constitution into Anki, but I’ll do it later.
- Memory Palaces: During my flight back today, I created a 100-loci memory palace (200 if used efficiently). Additionally, I addet 10 more memory palaces, each with 100 loci (again, potentially 200 or more if used efficiently).
- Logical Fallacies: I really enjoy the topic of logic, and I saw a post about memorizing logical fallacies. I already have everything ready to start, but I think I’ll begin tomorrow.
- Physics: As usual, I continued studying physics, and I think I’ve improved! It took me about 30 minutes to memorize (mostly learn) 18 pages. Nine days ago, I could manage 15-18, and the topics were much easier back then.
- Coding: Now that I’m back home, I can resume my coding course! My main focus today was reviewing what I’ve learned so far.
I dint memorize the Constitution and in general i didnt do that much because i was really tiered after the flight today. But ill do it tomorrow.
Additionally, I chose to use Quizlet over Anki because I’m more comfortable with it and find it simpler to add the lists I want to study. Is this an issue, or is it acceptable? Is this an issue or is it okay?
Day 15
- Read: Continued reading my book.
- Physics: Reviewed everything, and for the first time, I had no problems at all. The review took me about 70 minutes, during which I covered 200 pages.
- Logical Fallacies: Memorized all the names of the logical fallacies. This took me 12 minutes. After a break, I got 3 out of 52 fallacies wrong (i.e., the names). I noticed that the images that stick best are either extremely sad, gray, and depressing or exaggeratedly happy, with nothing in between.
- Coding: Continued watching, but I was a bit tired, so I only spent about 40 minutes on it.
5 min numbers: 66, 2 mistakes
5 min words: about 51 (it would be 53, but I wrote some words incorrectly)
School starts tomorrow, so I won’t post every day. Instead, I’ll post every four days or if I accomplish many things in one day, I’ll post about what I did on that day. Thanks again for helping me improve and for the tips! ![]()
Day 17
Yesterday, I didn’t do much, but today, I have some ideas for short but new things to memorize.
- Read: Start a new book. In general, I want to read one book every week if it has around 400 pages. If it has 300 or fewer, I try to read 1.5 to 2 books.
- Constitution: I finally got the Swiss Constitution as a book, so I plan to memorize 2 to 10 articles per day, depending on their length (aiming for about 200 words). I really enjoy doing this because I learn a lot, especially about how I can optimize my memory techniques. I’ve also started automatically connecting people and objects to common words, like linking the German word “Gewehr” (gun) with “gewährleisten” (to ensure), which sounds similar.
These are some things I haven’t done yet but plan to do today:
- Sign Language Alphabet and Alphabet Backwards: I’ll comment on the times later.
- Logical Fallacies: I haven’t yet covered all fallacies, so this is also on my plan for today.
- Italian: Some time ago, I memorized 500 Italian words, and I’m going to continue. I’ll do 30 minutes every day (Two weeks ago, I could do about 40 words in 20 minutes, so I hope this continues. I’ll use the last 10 minutes for repetition).
Sign Language Alphabet: This took me 2 minutes and 45 seconds to complete. After a 20-minute break, I got 0 mistakes.
Backward Alphabet: Initially, it took me 1 minute and 10 seconds to complete. After 1 minute and 28 seconds of memorizing, I reduced the time to 28 seconds.
Italian Words: I completed 54 words in 20 minutes with 4 mistakes. This was after a short break.
Day 19
- Reading: I read 1.5 books over two days. However, I didn’t do much else. I haven’t been feeling motivated and ended up spending most of my time watching YouTube or Netflix. On the bright side, I did memorize a bit of the Constitution and spent 30 minutes on Italian vocabulary.
Additionally, could you share any tips on how to reduce procrastination? I would appreciate any advice on how to stay focused and productive.
