Memorizing numbers in 9 digit chunks

I am fairly new to memory techniques, so to get my feet wet I decided to memorize e. I went with e instead of pi because I wanted to try out a system before I committed to using it to memorize hundreds of digits of pi. I want to have random access to the digits, which can be done with memory palaces but is much easier with pegs. I found @greymatters 's technique here, but it seemed daunting with all of the links I would have to make. 4 digits for each link seemed way too small, so I tried to compress more digits in each. I ended up with 9 digits per link, split into 3 words with the ben system. I make a little story using the 3 words and link it to the coordinate. It is much easier to divide by 9 than by 4 which makes the math a bit easier. I have only memorized the first 10 blocks, A0 - A9, but it seems like it works well. The ben system was pretty weird to use at first, and I would never use it for anything timed, but for condensing numbers for long term it works better than I thought. I’m a bit worried that with more items per link that I might forget some of them, but having more items can also provide more context to help remember if you forget something and I don’t know which is more likely to happen. What do you guys think about this system?
