Hi Everyone,
I’ve been skulking around the forums for a bit and decided to join because of the generally friendly and helpful attitude of the community. You gals and guys are rather amazing!
I’m in the food and beverage industry and as i’m sure you can imagine the ability to memorize detailed recipes can be a huge advantage. I’ve always desired to be that “GO-TO” manager that can pull up any recipe/ingredient at the drop of a hat. The problem is even though I spend a lot of time studying I continue to have to go back and relearn many of the recipes over and over. They just don’t seem to stick for the long term. This has lead me to search for a “better” way to memorize them and thus lead me here, looking for help!
I’ve done some reading and a lot of internet research regarding different techniques used to memorize things from cards and numbers, to peoples faces. I have not however come across an in depth explanation or strategy for memorizing a multifaceted topic such as food/drink recipes. I’m not here looking for short cuts, I have no problem putting the time and effort in. What I’m really looking for is some direction on how to set up a system to accomplish this.
Each recipe will require the memorization of the 1. type of ingredient 2. the amount of the ingredient (i.e. the numbers) 3. the unit of measurement ( cup, tsp, gallon, etc) 4. the cooking/preparation step (i.e. cook the chicken for 3 min on each side or until cooked all the way through).
the Recipes will be presented as such. 2 1/2 ounces/ sliced mushrooms/ Saute sliced mushrooms for 3 minutes until reduced by half and cooked through.
Once I start down the road of memorizing all of these recipes it will be time consuming, which is why having a solid system going in is so important. I can’t afford to restart/relearn over and over. Any suggestions from personal experience with a similar subject, books that may be helpful, etc is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance
