i memorized all the 2 digit squares squared . now i in the process of memorizing the multiplication table of 2 digit numbers (11-99) and after it i will want to memorize the the 3 digit squares, and then the 4 digit squares, after it, i will not memorize but be able to do very fast 5-8 digit squared, because a^2+2ab+b^2, for 8 digits i will do the first 4 digit squares add 8 zeros, then the first 4 digits times the last 4 digits times 2 and add 4 zeros, and then the last 4 digits without zeros, but its long process to memorize all, i have good memory from birth, but trained memory i didn’t succeeded to develop yet, and i am on this from april, you have advices ? i saw shimi atias memorize 27 digits in 27 seconds, and i remember all the peg words 1-100, and pull them fast from the memory, the problem with me is that the only thing i don’t do fast is the visualization , i don’t visualize or imagine fast enough any 2-4 objects, so its take me more time, i am not interested in do what shimi do with the 27 digits in 27 seconds, but i think that if i will be able to visualize clear enough and fast enough, then i will be able to memorize the multiplication and squares i want a lot faster, i can do it slower, but i don’t want it to take years, thanks, amit
Do you use Anki?
no
but i will try, i will check it
Memorizing all 3 digit squares? (1 to 999). Hard but doable. Around 10-20 people in history have done it.
Memorizing all 4 digit squares? (1 to 9999) = 99.999999 % Impossible. . Apparently, no one in history has ever done it.
(and splitting the square in two 2-digit blocks, and calculating in 2 seconds doesn’t count as a memorization.
Memorization is a pure recall of numbers from memory, without calculating.
Memorizing the 3 digit multiplication table = 99.9999999999999 % Even more , impossible. (You do realise that the 999 x 999 times table includes 1 million numbers right ?) . Again noone has done it. Maybe it’s only possible, if your whole life is dedicated to it, but I still doubt it
As for memorizing the 4 digit multiplication table 9999 x 9999 , (100 million numbers) ,
I don’t even consider that a human skill at all . That is beyond any capability of any carbon-based intelligence. You need silicon-cyborg intelligence to reach that level
the 3 digits squares to memorize its hard for me to believe that only 10-20 people done it, because i memorized the squares 1-100, total 354 digits, in 3 months, so all the squares 1-1000, (5544 digits) is about 15 times more digits to memorize, so in this pace so in about 4 years it will be done, about the squares 1-9999 is a lot more, but i belive that with the correct methods it;s possible to memorize 70434 digits and that people done that , the multiplication table 1-100 (1-10000) i belive its easier then that, and about all the rest i agree with you
hello. after a big break, i returned in tuesday to the 3 digit squares, i every day add 25 so now i in 175, about a month i will finish all, and about 400 days also the 4 digit multiplication tabls, by the way, its easier to me without mnemonics and tricks, because then the recall faster
i added every day 25 squares, but now that in friday i 200, its more difficult to recall, so i until now that now good i just the 200, i decided because of this and because i in cyber course, just in saturdays to add 25, so i just update you that i will finish later then i thought
i thought about it, and the first 100, after remember all to a level of knowing perfect was 3 months reviews, so indeed in saturdays 25 , but after 100 (4 saturdays) 3 months review
i will stop until the 20.02.2024 because i want to give my all to the cyber course, after it i will continue
Better both
Good luck. Are you Indian by the way?
I have another mental calculator friend from Bangalore, India,
he is called Amit Garg, same first name as yours
Hello, I am Israeli, the name 3mit - עמית - in hebrew means colleague, i know the name amit is also indian, but in hebrew its with paroxytone and the indian i think is oxytone, but what interesting is that my family name is katz, but my mother maiden name is gourgy, (iraqi jewish origin), in the iraqi jewish arabic gourgy means : beautiful, and also georgian, and this word borrowed from the persian language if i am not mistaken, because in arabic not of the iraqi jew, beautiful is 7lw or jmyl. so the garg you said very interesting because its remind me the gourgy
you said maybe 10-20 accross the history memorized the first 1000 squares, i remember the first 200 squares out of order and in order, and the 250 first out of order (actually the first 265, i add every day 5 squares), you meant out of order or in order 10-20 people ? and the other one how many people ? i did a break, just recently i resumed, this why i just in 265 now
by the way, you meant that the 10-20 people that memorized the first 1000 squares did it with natural memory like me ? or with memory aids and techniques like memory palaces, and associations, mnemonics, ect…
There are probably less than 100 mental shortcuts that make doing math of all sorts nigh instantaneous (if you practice them).
Why memorize everything when you could calculate it (and more) instantaneously?
because with recall with natural memory its faster, and easier to me, i have a great natural memory, now to practice speed of calculation will take many time and effort, and the speed will always be faster in the recall from the natural memory
If it works for you, do it.
I don’t see any logical way to scale your method.
I’m still wrapping my head around Big O notation, but perhaps someone can give the formula for his method of: Use natural memory to memorize the result of each individual calculation
?
O(n^2) perhaps?
yesterday i arrived to 500, today 505, you think less then 100 people arrived to 500 or more ? thanks
Lol, today I’m studying for my university entrance exams and I was wondering how long it would take me to learn the multiplication tables from 11-100. Seeing your comment, I’m calculating how long it would take me to learn the million tables from 1-1100 and I think it would take me at least 85-91 years if I learn 30 a day. After finishing this school year I will surely face that challenge for the rest of my life, and besides, that way I exercise my brain every day haha
