Memorizing Bible Scriptures; Promises

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum. I wanted to share my technique on how I memorize Bible Promises.

What I do is create first ‘tags’ for each book in the Bible. For Proverbs, I have an Angel; for Psalms, I have King David, for Matthew, I’ll have Matthew, etc.

I then create a quick, short mini story that has for instance King David (book) and then involves numbers in the story and perhaps bits of the scripture that I have difficulty with, put in a way that helps me remember.

Example: Two Corinthians (people) in a '57 Chevy, yellow and white convertable (one from memory), drive 5 miles through 7 villages with ‘no’ map!
2 Corinthians 5:7, ‘for we walk by faith, not by sight.’

I still have to remember the ‘exact’ versoin in rote fashion, usualy typing it 10 or 20 times, then rehearsing it over and over a few times while I walk the dog. The mini story I create allows me to remember all the segments of the ‘exact’ version quite well.

Some funny ones;

John, holding 8 ‘light of life’ light bulbs, is standing behind Jesus as Jesus is about to talk to 12 hundred people. (John 8:12)

Luke Skywalker flies a Fairchild F11 9 eleven hundred miles for nine hours to seek what he was asking for. (Luke 11:9)

Some are not ‘funny’ in the sense, and for some reason, some Bible entries do not need a story, as it is easier to just recall it purely, no tags and fishing hooks required, so I guess they are already burned to memory quite well or for some reason, their numbers and book relate to the scripture uniquely.

I like to study them every other day. They are nearing 100 stories, so going through each one can take an hour. I may start doing 1/3 of the list every day. One is doing these in a dual form of remembering; both the rote exact version and the story version. I have found that if I slack off a few days, its very difficult (for me) to remember the fish hooks, so all the work can be for nothing if I do not stay on it.

Trying to remember some when falling asleep is also good, great for memorizing.

Great fun. I love this.

I often find myself having problems with remembering words. 2 days ago, I was memorizing Proverbs 1:33. I had an issue with remembering ‘be at ease’. I then disected the phrase into pictures. I pictured a honey bee sitting on a painting easle. bee-easle. bee at easle. be at ease.

That helped. I have been doing this alot.

The scripture, in my system has a short picture memory fish-hook story (quick and sometimes really basic) and then I memorize the actual Scripture through repetition, saying it and or typing it quite a few times over a day or two. Bing, locked it. With the quick mini story, I memorize it easier and can then recall its location/name, etc.

Sample, same scripture;;

Proverbs; (all Proverbs have Angels as book tags for Proverbs).
(Remember, this part goes by like a blur, a few pictures).
Angel, looking over a Hospital ship, crossing Pacific, WWII, spots a i-33 class (1:33) Japanese sub, Angel protects Ship from Sub. (Angel/Proverbs, 1:33 (location), protecting (story content) ).

Proverbs 1:33, but whoever listens to me will will live in safety (picture a safe with T’s on top of it) and be at ease (honey bee is sitting on an easle), without (w/o in a letter) fear of harm (f-of-h, fancy logo, bank?).

So I have pictures in both the actual Scripture/Promise as well as in the mini story (bag of fish hooks).

Again, looks sophisticated but its nothing more then a quick blur of memory tags and helpers. Nothing exotic, no system, just pictures to help me.
