Memorizing a dance pattern

I am into Ballroom Dancing, and will be entering a competition soon. The challenge i have is to put together several different routines for different dances - waltz, tango, foxtrot, cha cha, etc.

Each dance has up to 15 different patterns - for example a waltz would have a progressive basic, left turn, right turn, turning twinkle, etc. Ideally the patterns are danced in order, but just as any plan changes quickly, so do these pre-planned patterns change. It’s not unusual for another couple could step into your path and suddenly your plans change.

So the memory challenge is to start with a list in order, but also use it as a mental check list. In a competition you want to be sure to show the judges your best techniques, and have to keep track of what you’ve done and what remains to do.

I’m new to this memory training, but from what i can tell it seems the “Peg” system might be what i need. However i’m open to suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
