Hi
, creating a memory palace is very labor-intensive. Although it’s powerful, it isn’t practical when I need to store information on the spot—for example, in a classroom with limited time. I can’t pause to build a palace in the moment. One might suggest using Google Maps, but that still requires time and mental effort beforehand or during the situation. Is there any method that works instantaneously, in real time, without preparation?
Thank you![]()
There might be some ideas in the conversations section.
It is undug idea that Memory Palaces can not do it in real time. I had same journey. The palace felt mechanical until I figured out what the method is about.
Notice that it is a method and there are many ways to enact the method. When I became dissatisfied with the teachings of others, I became vigilant to determine what is working in my method, that is where the method became personal enough to work it out in real time.
We should discard the idea that memory is like a video recorder. The probable solution to your question is the one you already know “study beforehand, be attentive, ask questions, do the homework and try to learn extra” The answer might be generic but no alternative method you are searching will do the work.
If you want the M.P to do it for you which I experienced to be most versatile of all, the path is same. You deliberately try and refine it to your needs. Do NOT seek pleasure in task you are doing. Your findings will give you contentment which you will soon realize is beyond pleasure.
Hi I made a post similar yesterday. My memory work is low. So I have problems to recall things without context.
In university I had to write
make squares draws etc. Give it sense to remember. But In the street. In Jobs or with normal People they dont give you time.
I dont know if palace is the best way to do this. Maybe link or peg is better for me to do it but still works on this. Ive seen to repeat New information Five times is good but not enough.
Look into body palaces, or make whatever room you’re sat in for the lesson the palace.
Body memory palace is what I use. (Mostly when I want to remember the main points of an interesting podcast I’m listening to while walking).
The kinesthetic aspect helps a lot.
Hi. And how do you connect it? You reuse the body a lot of times? I want to use it. But seems weird.
Yes I have two versions (different “paths” on the body) and I reuse them.
It’s temporary, for 1-2 days maximum, until I can be home and have the time to take notes. Or decide it’s not worth taking notes (making a “Zettel”). After all, part of the value is that it forces you to pay attention and to think, to sort the information and decide what the most important points are instead of just letting the information wash over you.
Why don’t you use the same classroom you’re in? You can select the loci on the go. The teacher’s spot, the whiteboard, the window, your place… When you need more loci you’ll immediately remember the class entrance, and then the hall, and you can just retrace all the way back to your home as you need more loci.
May be its useful. But I don’t like using the body. But I could try if you say it improves attention.
I have bad short time memory it could helps. I’m practising using short mind maps to remember short tasks or information. But I need to write to do it and sometimes you can’t.
