Practice, practice practice. There is no shortcut. It will take time (likely a LONG time, likely many MONTHS) to go from brand new to the fluency needed to use these systems well. Don’t expect utility in just a few days.
You can absolutely use Anki. I’ve provided template decks for both 3-digit numbers and 2-card systems here on the forum. All you need to do is enter your own words and/or images.
One thing about using Anki to build recognition speed up to fluency… Typically Anki uses a spaced repetition algorithm that will change the frequency of the cards you’re learning based on how you answer them. This means if you rate a card as “easy” or “good”, Anki will not show it to you again for several days, sometimes weeks or months. This is NOT what you want to happen when trying to build recognition speed. You want to review your cards and numbers every day (maybe every other day at the most) because you want to build your reflexive recognition and association with your imagery. In order to do that, you’ll need to change the review settings for these decks so that the maximum interval between reviews is only one or two days. This way, no matter how many times you rate a card as “easy” Anki will still show it to you again soon.
When you’re ready to tackle these big systems, it’s super important to understand the time commitment you’ll need to have in order to learn all the images and also to get fast with them. I made a post on that topic which you may want to check out. Keep your expectations realistic, and you’ll be able to acquire these awesome tools!
