Max memory journal

Hey all, i thought about documenting my journey with memory tecniques and what i use them for. This is because i am often not consistent with keeping track of my progress / recall and i keep forgetting things after several months. Also, if anyone has ideas or just want to talk, feel free to write here!

The first step of mine was to memorise 0-100 numbers via the major system. I love thinking in numbers.

Reference Spreadsheet for every idea i get:

I do think that a 3 digit system is way too much for now. I will stick to 100 Major system numbers and try to master them first.

Altough my system doesn’t follow the pao rules i gess it’s not too difficult to implement pao even when i have objects as my main words. As long as i remember the action…

Good luck, do 2 digit-system and then have fun with it. Having fun is the key here.

Yeah, i do think i will eventually spiral out to memory competition but for now i am just happy remembering my routines, atm number etc

What do you use your memory methods for?

I can’t seem to be able to modify my original message so i guess i will just write this as it’s a diary instead of updating the main message.

For now the goals are:

Using a memory palace…made of an anime opening song. Weird i know but in 20s of this video i was able to compress 30 of my major system numbers. I am finding much easier to make palaces out of movies and videos than locations

Goals: remember the following-

  1. Atm number ( 16 cifres )
  2. Bank account number ( 27)
  3. Passwords for my 4 email accounts
  4. Create an alphabet system
  5. Map all of my routines into precise, quantifiable steps, like cleaning my house, getting ready for work etc.

Good progress, I was already able to recall the first 50 numbers, condensing them in like 45s of the song. Audio + video seems to be working quite well

This rules, glad you figured this out! Might give it a try

Today i made some additions to the spreadsheet. The alphabet is almost complete too, it came out starcraft themed. Also added some routines for the items i have to bring to the gym, when i go to the river etc

If you have any movie / music video / anime opening that you remember decently then it’s a very solid choice  i am tyring to shove 100 locations in it because i remember the video very well, but i would say that you can make a solid palace out of every intro. Maybe my next one will be from Dexter

Small update. I’m still on board. Unfortunately i had a pretty rough time, nothing serious but i didn’t seriously try to do many things memory related.

I do realise that i am naturally better at using objects for my palaces instead of places. No idea why. This is what i have been testing lately, to use cars for my memory palaces. Why cars? They always have the same number of locations and i do like cars, altough i am not that much into them.

This is what i did yesterday. The graphic sucks but i don’t care.

This is the memory palace for my passwords. It makes sense to me and i found out that using some lines that i know and modifying them a little, instead of using some completely ass words is much more effective, for passwords. For me at least.

The images make sense to me. So far i got an almost 100% retention rate of these passwords, so it’s pretty encouraging. I think i will keep using objects and videos for now

Today’s goal is to memorize all the steps necessary to change a inner tube of a bicycle. I always tend to skip some part like putting the axle in a plastic container, or I do mix some of the steps. It’s a relatively straightforward thing but I want to make it as quick and efficient as possible

This is the kind of practical thing I like. There are things I do not do often enough so I always have to ā€œre-figure outā€ what is the best way to do it.

Thanks

I was on vacation so I haven’t been strict with training but I managed to map the steps ( 15 total).

Now gonna map some of my cleaning routines, for both my pc and my house

came up with this super ugly diagram of 15 steps total for the tire change. the images repeat themselves cause many steps are the the same.Idk if it’s going to be good or bad but for now it will suffice

God damn it was too long. I need to find a way to be more consistent

I like how you have routines by context.

very busy days but i’m not giving up. For now in maintenance mode, just revisiting some old stuff. Managed to reduce my screen time usage by a long margin.

now that i am doing prolonged fasting + phone block at a certain hours i am much more productive, and overall active both physically and mentally.

So i’m going to be more active in the next days. The car memory palace seems to have been a fail, but maybe because i haven’t recollected it even once since creating. Needs more testing to see if it’s my fault or if it’s an inadequate palace on it’s own

Phone blocking detox + fasting is an amazing combo. Managed to work the whole day, come back home, have a small nap and then 1h of biking, plus some memory training.

Did some things on the memory excel sheet, and tried to recollect my major system + bike inner tube change steps.

The car method is actually not bad at all, i just need to make it a proper memory palace, and as long as i have cars i will have nearly unlimited memory palaces with always the same number of locations ( 19 ) per car.

Tomorrow i will incorporate some of my routines in Anki, and i will use the detox app on my work break so that for 10m the only app i can use is anki to never stop recollecting my memory palaces and to avoid going blind like i did now after a 3 month stop.

Today is the last day of the 5 day water fast. I feel quite fine, a little bored because eating is a huge part of our life. The good thing is that i am starting to use the excel sheet again. And i’m also adding my routines to anki.

Todays addition is how to change a consumable part on a work machine. I do know this process already, but since some of the tools are scattered around the place it’s a pain when you realise you forgot one. So yeah, gonna study the routine tomorrow.

I did revise the 15 bike inner tube replacement, and it feels solid. Now i need to work again on my Major system numbers, as i let way too much time pass when studying them.

I am also realising that my original way of memorising this list is just not that effective. The words that i learned via a strong memory palace are still here after 4 months while most of those random ones are kinda foggy, i need to be more consistent
