Long-term memorization of historical dates

I would like to use or build a method for long term memory of signifcant historical dates. I’m currently considering the following:

  • Create or borrow a unique image peg for each year 0-2100 (using the 4-digit major system).
  • Use an image to denote BC (e.g., the pagan star), which I can combine with previous images
  • Create an image peg for each of the 366 days (including leap day) inspired by annually cyclic observances and holidays (e.g., leprechaun for March 17th)

A bit of my reasoning:

  • The major system seems to be the most popular among peg-generation systems. It makes the most sense to me. It just seems more scalable than the others.
  • The 4-digit major system will be a lot of work. But my intuition tells me it’s worth it. 2-3-digit systems seem clunky for dates.
  • I don’t want to create separate images for months and days. That seems clunky.
  • Almost every day of the year has some special holiday or observance tied to it (I’m using US, UK, UN, Roman, and Christian holidays/observances, along with country national days).
  • Using holidays/observances for month-day images kills two birds with one stone: 1) I get my image pegs for my system , 2) I get to add a bunch of holiday dates to memory.
  • I prefer natural images to the synthetic ones from the major system. Holidays/observances seem a very natural way to generate month-day images.

I’ve seen forum posts on methods for long term memory of historical dates. E.g.,

Best alteration of major method for Historical years?

But I haven’t seen anyone mention the method I proposed. That got me thinking: am I going to run into problems with my method? Am I missing something?

Any advice before I set out on this adventure would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
