I need to memorize 3500 new words for the SAT. How should I go about this?

In order to prepare for the SAT, I need to memorize all the vocabulary from this website in 30 days. How do I go about doing this, and what memory techniques or system should I use? I have tried linking words to images, and memorizing example sentences/phrases with the word to memorize this, but I am having difficulty using these techniques. Thank you to anyone who is willing to point me in the right direction .

(note: if this is in the wrong topic, someone please move it)

My advice:

  • Set up some flashcard app (Anki or whatever) or even your own paper/digital notes. If you can find this set already done, or if you can use e.g. a RegEx/program to create flashcards, even better.
  • Check through the words and skip any that you already know (or seem unimportant for some reason). Concentrate on the ones you don’t already know. Recognize that you don’t need to know 100% of these. But the more the better. I’m a native English speaker and don’t know some of these… acclivity?!
  • For these, find some reason why that word has that definition (ideally etymology, or links to similar words, but can be some random ad hoc mnemonic if needed). Use those to help you memorize them.
  • Ideally cover only 20–30 genuinely new words per day, not 100+

Thank you for the advice, Daniel! I didn’t think about etymology as a way to solidify my knowledge, so I’ll try to incorporate that into my studies. Currently I’m using Anki flashcards, and it does seem to be a good way to track what I know.
