I have a question for those who use memory techniques for studying

If I learn mnemonics, how quickly will I be able to master the material for tests, certifications, and language learning? What techniques do you use?
I have multiple part-time jobs, so it’s hard for me to balance them with my studies.

You can jump right in with the linking method theres not really any need to learn a numbers system right away. Search the forum for “linking method”and you’ll see it’s a great way to tie something unknown to something you already know to make recall really natural and easy. It still takes time to build all the connections but way more effective and fun than rote repetition learning.

For all the things that you memorize, you’re going to need to spend time reviewing. If you use memory techniques you will need to review less often, but you still will need to review things. So it has a cost and it’s unefficient to just memorize all the material.

Ask yourself what you actually need to memorize. If it’s procedural information, meaning you need to know “how to” do something (like write a program, solve a math problem), you need to practice first and foremost. Only memorize steps once you’ve practiced a bit and notice you have gaps.

If we’re talking about concepts (for example theories, principles), make a mind map to connect new things with the things you already know, and to connect the things between them. Once you understand how things interrelate, you will need to memorize only a minimal amount of information. (We’re talking about mind mapping to help you think, not taking notes in a non linear way)

What you (probably) need to memorize are references (facts that don’t really need deep understanding, like historial dates). But always ask yourself why they are important and how they relate to the concepts you know.

Hi. I’m not good at memory methods. But is not magic. Implies work and time to learn it and practise. As people say here there are systems less powerful and easier like link method or story. But you can see study methods too. Not only memory. It helps a lot.
