The hardest part of mnemonic memory training is to start and keeping up motivation. It’s really tough. You tend to loose motivation after some time or after achieving some success in mnemonic, you tend to loose motivation to do it. Because your mind think you are good at it. You stop pushing yourself more. Me too face the same problem and my solution is self hypnosis. I hypnotised myself for focus, concentration, motivation and confidence. I do it daily. At morning after waking up and at night before sleeping. I am a amature hypnotist. But it works really great for me. I feel that mnemonists are capable of easily hypnotizing themselves, as they are doing lots of visualisation. I practice visualisation too in different mental scenarios like I am giving a demonstration in college, I am teaching someone mnemonics etc. These things help me in mnemonics. Because as you know that if you teach something you tend to remember it more. And it develops my public speaking skill. It makes me confident. Is anyone here who do it too? Or anyone who wants to do it. Hypnosis is tough. But visualisation is not. I think I can help you in visualisation. Visualisation help us to - make our goals more realistic and desirable, addictive to use,. So it ultimately led you to achieve your goals. By visualisation you can correct your mistecs, develop your skills. I believe it’s our real sixth sense. Please do share your experience.
A few years someone tried to hypnotize me and a few others in an act, one by one everyone’s head dropped and I ended up looking around to see when something would be happening together with someone else from the group that was called on stage xD But yea, some people are easier to hypnotize than others I heard.
My motivation is mainly my daughter though, she loves mnemonics and doing it together with her keeps it fun for me, even though we are at totally different levels. I today memorized 300 numbers with two mistakes, she has trouble with 10. But doing it together is fun, and it keeps me going.
I do use a lot of visualisation, but that is mainly exercises for mnemonics rather than motivation. I just like to do it, it has become a hobby, so I think the only motivation I need is the satisfaction of progress. Mnemonics also has some practical aspects to me. Memorizing all information I need for work that day, memorizing phone numbers and birthdays (I used to use facebook for that), I meet lots of people and remembering their names and faces helps me being likable, and I also have a memory palace with about 50 loci which is like my happy-spot. I go there whenever life doesn’t feel like being kind to me. I think those kind of things keep me going mostly. (and feeling smart at birthdays has totally nothing to do with it! I swear!)
Mayarra thanks for sharing. I am a student. 22. I don’t practice with someone so I rely on hypnosis and visualisation. It really works great for me. And about hypnosis, it depends on two factors…
Whether you subconsciously wants to be hypnotised or not and the more intelligent people is the more he or she is vulnerable to hypnosis. Also location play a role too. But In my experience, over 90% people is vulnerable to hypnosis to a degree. Let me ask you a question…
- Did you ever drive to somewhere and you totally forgot that how did you reach there? You totally forgot the road and the journey?
2.did you ever watch a movie that makes you so much emotional that you cried?
3.after waking up in the morning have you ever slept again and seen a conscious controllable dream? I mean a dream that you can control to a degree?
Then my friend you have already been hypnotised by YOURSELF and can be hypnotised by a trained hypnotherapist. And that is really good for you.
Because of hypnosis I have
1.learned drawing within two months and won competitions.
- Trained just for two weeks in memory training and now I can memorise my text books to everything to a great degree
3.i have never tried cursive writing but I’ve learned it properly in just one week
4.it really improved my storytelling and public speaking ability. Now I can mold my listeners mind in any way I want. I am not afraid anymore.
Hypnosis is amazing.
