Some months ago, I memorized the Periodic Table with all these characteristics: atomic number, name, symbol, line, column, type, and atomic mass with one decimal place. The techniques that I used were: Peg List, Major system, Memory Palace, Substitutive Word, and Link System.
First, I needed to transform each type to a number:
Alkali Metals = 0 Other metals = 5
Alkali Earth Metals = 1 Metalloids = 6
Transition Metals = 2 Nonmetals = 7
Lanthanides = 3 Halogens = 8
Actinides = 4 Noble Gases = 9
Second, I divided the Periodic table into 9 lines and 18 columns (only the number of the column always has two digits: 00,01,…,17,18). It has only 7 lines, but I considered Lanthanides and Actinides as different ones.
Third, I decided how I would represent the symbol: each symbol is represented by a person or object, and the first two letters of its name must be the symbol. If there isn’t such a name, I choose a person or object such that its initial letter is the same as the symbol’s, and this person or object must have an adjective such that its initial letter is the same as the symbol’s second letter. What if the symbol has only one letter? I double a person or object that has the symbol as the initial letter. For instance: Hydrogen’s symbol is H, and it can be represented by Hulk, but if I put only one Hulk, I’ll confuse H with Hu, then I need to put two Hulks.
Fourth, I chose the way I would codify the atomic mass: an action with an object; each representing two digits. The biggest atomic mass doesn’t exceed three digits, but it may have another decimal digit, so it adds up to 4. To represent them I used Major System.
Fifth, I chose an order to put relate these things with Link System, and here was where I made a terrible mistake. I chose the following order: Peg number/Atomic Number (they’re essentially the same because I memorized them in order of Atomic Number), name, symbol, line, column, type, and atomic mass. My mistake was to put the type after line and column, but the type is so more important than position. Besides this problem, this division made me to join the line with the first digit of the column, and the second digit of the column with the type; that means the column is represented by two different images, and that decreases speed. so if you’re going to memorize the Periodic Table, put type right after the symbol, then you’ll record it faster.
Sixth, How to join all this information? I imagine the Peg is with the being that represents the name (Substitutive word), after that, the symbol appears. The name must do an action that represents the type and the line (using a 00-99 Major System) over an object that codifies the column (using a 00-99 Major System again), and this object acts back with another object. The last pair of action and object codifies the atomic mass.
I used only one 00-99 Peg list, how could I remember 118 elements? Reusing the list with two different places: I put the first one hundred elements in my living room and the last eighteen elements in my kitchen.
I didn’t memorize all the digits like that, but the majority. I’m telling the way I should have memorized all of them. It took ten days; I memorized 10 elements per eight days and 18 on two days.
