Hello everyone , This is my 1st post here. I need to memorize a lot of Historical dates, Months And Year to learn General Knowledge for jobs exam. Can anyone tell me how to memorize a lot of historical events. I mean which method is easy to memorize historical dates, month, year. For example ,
21 july 1972 + an event
10 November 2016 + an event
etc.
btw, I know several memory techniques which are found in this forum. But I am confused which technique will be easy for memorizing my above mentioned historical dates. Please experts help.
It would be a good idea to keep the events in mind within their context, that is having a general view of the temporal frame around the events.
So long as you know the events themselves, all you need to remember the date is translate their number using the Major System (or any other system of number memorization you want) and link the imagery of the number with the event.
e.g. A car crash in 2/2/2002 (just cooked this up, but could be an actual event… whatever).
To remember it (after first getting to know about it), you could imagine a car crashing on a tree from which a nun (2/2) falls, but she’s in a complete zen mode (02, the century is generally easy to remember, but if you want, just modify the imagery for the complete year).
You can separate each number and present it as you wish.
This system basically gives you a good nudge which wakes you to the information that you know, so the more you repeat and are familiar with the info the more secure the efficiency of the mnemonic device.
Mind you, all this memorizing procedure gives you enough time not only to concentrate on knowing, but also being imaginative with the knowledge you absorb.
@Bezarius Thank you so much for your valuable comment. Btw, NUN (2/2) will it not be confusing to identify date and month using major system together??? Because NUN may refer 22 which can be a date not a month.
Actually My problem is when I am using major system for the three parts date, month, year. I am getting confused sometimes. So I need know three memorization techniques for the three parts and link them together. or any other easy method.
You’re right, the whole endeavor could lead to confusion. The important thing is to find a particular way to code the information that will help your recall.
That is, for example, the order in which I turned the numbers into images is not random: first, I put the day and month and then the year. I can see how mixing day and month can be confusing (it’s better to separate them indeed, my bad), so you could try using distinct words in one particular order: day/month/year (or any kind of order you prefer)-- that way, you know what comes first then second and last.
So, for a clearer encoding experience^^: In the example I gave I could perhaps imagine the car crashing onto the sun while someone sits on the sun (maybe that nun? :P) in zen mode, with a zone flying around them. The example here gets extra points of confusion perhaps since the numbers are the same 02/02/02 ^^ ( I’m oft-times not a great example giver, 'tis true, and I’m sorry for that).
If the addition of the order function doesn’t suffice, the months could alternatively be memorized through a peg system of sorts that you can devise yourself. The days and years, though, imho can best be memorized through the use of a mnemonic system for numbers (like the major system).
