Hello, can someone please help me by elucidating what exactly would comprise a memory journal for someone trying to make virtual memory palaces?
Hello. I’m not really sure myself, but I identified the specific things I was focusing on as my first steps and added a couple notes about what I’d like to do in the future. I also read over some of the other journals on the site to get an idea of how it’s done.
Ultimately, it’s for your own benefit, so I’d suggest just keeping one even if you’re not sure what you’re doing. Over time, you’ll likely notice the kinds of questions that you wish you had answered in previous entries, and you’ll start answering them in advance and making the most of the journal.
I just learned about memory palaces, while watching Sneaky Pete (Amazon show) and a guy mentioned how the titular character is able to remember vivid details of a story based on a short or passing conversation.
Led me down a rabbit hole to this forum.
With that said, here’s a few tips from what I came across:
-
Be expressive: Go deep into your feelings and use emotional language. Don’t just recount the story - describe and analyze it in as much detail as you can.
-
Pick the right time: While the journaling session should be fairly short - 20 or 30 minutes is enough - you should pick the time carefully
-
Be patient: It takes time to see the benefits of journaling on your memory, so be patient and keep at it.
-
Use mnemonic devices: These are ways of enhancing memory that can involve connecting what you’re trying to remember to other information in your memory, organizing details more efficiently, and making use of mental visualization.
Hope that helps!
