How do you guys memorize a book and get prepared for an exam

Hello,

Its been a while since Ive posted here. I was mainly focused on the GMS School of Phenomenal Memory. I wasnt able to finish that course its just too hard for me.

So my question is since there are a lot of intelligent people here who manage to do very well without the GMS course. So my question to you guys is.

What are some threads that are good here and that I can read that will allow to memorize almost entire books and be a very good student?

I want to memorize some stuff for a job but I also want to memorize the entire Baby Pips free FOREX course that is on the Baby Pips website and become a very good trader.

So the question is where do I start in order to be able to train myself into better learning and memorization without the GMS course?

You should have the basics learned solidly and confidently before jumping into very advanced and time consuming things like verbatim book memorization (which will take an incredible amount of time and effort to learn and likely won’t make you a better student or trader.)

Keep in mind, having a working understanding of your subject matter first and being able to apply it in practical situations is much more important than being able to regurgitate information without awareness of its context. Without that understanding, large scale verbatim memorization is much more difficult and is fairly pointless because it won’t get you any closer to your actual goal.

I supposed depending on the educational system you’re in that might be very true, but if you have the (un)fortune to study in one of those countries, the better word would be “good test taker.”

Have you tried this free course?

I think memory techniques are just one set of tools that you can add to a larger study tools toolkit. I don’t think they will solve every studying problem by themselves.

I think that the technique in the video below is one of the most useful study skills and it can be applied instantly without taking a course or practicing it, which might help avoid analysis paralysis.

I really like the Feynman Technique its really cool. Im familiar with most of the memory techniques. but I don`t understand for example how am I gonna use the method of loci to memorize a 350-page book? Can someone please shed some light on the project?

@Bogdanm so first of all, start with the end. You indicated a few “desires/goals” -

  1. Memorize entire books
  2. Be a good student
  3. Memorize things for work
  4. Memorize the Baby Pips free Forex course.
  5. Become a good trader
  6. Use the method of loci to memorize a 350 page book.

Step 1 :
First lets build a simple model of learning-
Attention (Collecting information + Conceptualizing/Understanding + Memory + Application)

Step 2 :
Lets simplify things. Your goals 1, 3, 4, 6 can be combined into you want to be able to mentally store large volumes of information using memory techniques. 2 and 5 can be combined into wanting to use stored information to perform a role and/or function.

Goal 1 - Build mental libraries.
Goal 2 - Gain expertise in a specific field.
