Hello everyone. New here. I have a grave issue that everyone seems to totally skip by in all internet and the forums, but totally killed me.
I started experimenting with 00-99 peg systems, made many that I eventually could not memorize and each gave up on. Major, shaper, and personage(with Dominic). Here is a breakdown of each peg system experience, no exceptions. I think it will help you troubleshoot along with me:
Get excited
Start writing down for hours while absolutely toiling to find even semi relevant things to most of the pegs
Spend three weeks with inches of progress out of painful boredom and lack of ideas
Finish the list, nothing is easy to remember
Half assedly try to memorize, but too disappointed at this point to carry on
Shamefully wave the white flag until next time
My brain rejects the pegs like a body rejecting viruses. Sometimes a peg can take like 8 seconds to recall. Makes me very hopeless, especially since I cannot seem to find any info on anyone talking too much about the details of this step. For the life of me I cannot find any good pegs for anything ever, and making up a random peg with a Major is faster than remembering the poorly āmemorizedā peg. Yes, it is THAT bad. Can someone describe the logistics of memorizing the pegs? Please someone help this poor sufferer hahahahaha
And a few direct questions. 1. When making paper flashcards,
A. should each time try to perfectly visualize the peg for five or more seconds, OR
B. try to force my brain to not visualize (be quick and move on if a shadow of the peg is recalled a bit)?
How many minutes a day for how much should I study a 00 99, considering my painful situation
What is it do you think from experience that is causing this friction that eventually killed each attempt?
So, Iām still a beginner, but I think I may be able to help with this one. Youāre trying to do too much all at once. Take it slower.
Hereās how Iāve approached my system. I started out by finding some really obvious number associations that I already knew. 69 is a really obvious one, for example. I found a few numbers that were this obvious and then practiced with them for a while - putting together 4-digit numbers and ātranslatingā them.
After that, I tried to add about 2-3 numbers per day. No more than that. I then ponder those numbers on my daily walk and try to spot them on license plates and house numbers. If Iām uncertain about any of them, I donāt add any new ones until the ones Iāve already got are clear.
Iām up to 78 numbers now, and pretty sure about all of them.
So slow down and really make sure the numbers youāve got are sticking in your head before adding any more. I hope this helps.
I donāt know if it would help, but I used to recite my images as I walked. You can set an easy pace at first, like one image every 8 steps, working up to one image per step. Once you can recall one image per step, start reciting them backwards.
Try doing only 00-09 at first. Then switch to 10-19. Then 20-29. Etc.
Another idea: if you have paper flash cards, maybe try carrying around five of them in your hand and checking them every half hour throughout the day. Once you know those five, put them aside and take five more cards. Keep rotating them until you know all of them.
