Hi beau, can you help me with something?
I want your help in refining my study framework.
I learn in layers,
1st layer PRIMING for my lectures (to understand general ideas and make a safety net to prevent concepts going over my head).
2nd layer ACTIVE NOTE-TAKING (I watch lectures and make a list of keywords which I will use to make mind map. I also solve practice questions at this layer)
- My thought process in 2nd layer is to understand the concepts and make connections based on the understanding.
3rd layer MIND MAPPING (At this layer I make mind map based on connections i previously made and make recall questions based on connections and relations used in mind map, this way i can memorize the mind map and use active recall to improve retention)
4th layer MEMORY PALACE (At this layer I memorize concepts which are difficult to remember and the things I keep forgetting.)
And I use Domenic’o Bryan’s rule of 5 for spaced repetition.
I am using this framework for about 2 weeks or so. Now when I am telling you about this framework it is sounding really simple to me. Which it is.
But when I use it I feel like it is consuming too much time.
Like the day before yesterday, it took me 7.3 hours just to take lectures (5 lectures 30 min each & each with 5-10 sample questions) and make mind maps (from layer 1 to 3ish, because I hadn’t even did much question practice).
I know with enough practice I will get faster and better used to the framework.
But i want an expert opinion on how can I make this framework more efficient and what can I change in myself as well.
Like replace some limiting beliefs, improve rate of understanding by priming better, etc.
I also need some help to improve layer 2nd and 3rd.
For example, in layer 2nd-> Insted of making connections in layer 2nd i can make them in layer 3rd (because I have just wanted the lectures my connections will be biased and this way I can’t bring out the full potential of the connections and relations).
& In layer 3rd I am having issue making mind maps for example i don’t have much reference to look up to, to make mind maps for subjects like statistics, programming and maths,
I know that information is just information so any mind map can be a reference, but if I can see how others are making connections as an example it would be helpful.
These are the links to my mind maps, a somewhat simpler one is from my programming lecture and the more cluttered one is from statistics lecture,
(
)
I think that the programming one i more clear because my understanding of those concepts are clear. And statistics one is more cluttered because the information itself is unclear. I think more in the mind means less on the paper.
& lastly layer 4th, I think, I am really under utilising memory palace. I have used memory palaces before but i haven’t for used it for the purpose of layering.
Sometimes, i think that i should remember things more, but then these kinds of thoughts comes to mind:-
Shouldn’t the mind map be enough, of I memorize these things will it affect my critical thinking when solving problems, etc.
What do you suggest? Should I use mind maps for thinking and making connections and then use those branches (connections) to memorize using memory palace.
I eagerly await your response.
And really sorry for this long ended request.
