Note that i have to memorize it verbatim or almost 90percent of every line.please help me there are many subjects like chemistry physics.please also tell me how to remeber these.i know memory palace technique and other mnemonics.i also want to ask how some mnemonists are able to memorize whole books verbatim.
Thank you.

I’m not so experienced using memory techniques but I would like to try helping with an example of what I did for one concept specificly.

An author I studied conceptualizes “jurisdiction” as being:

“a state action aiming to apply the objective law to the concrete case with the purpose of solving a legal crisis permanently and thereby achieving social pacification.”

So I made mental images in order to help me remember almost verbatim this concept.

“a state action (a politician behind a theater curtain) aiming (a binocular) to apply (an injection) the objective law (a book with a hammer) to the concrete case (brick/concrete) with the purpose of solving a legal crisis (the contenders fighting in court) permanently and thereby achieving social pacification (people in a community with friendly feelings and doves flyring).”

The way I imagine the objects is the theater curtain opening and showing a politician that is using a binocular and seeing a flying angry injection stinging a law book so it got scared and “throw” a brick in the contenders fighting in a court room so after it the court room door opens and the community is all friendly and peace doves are flying in the sky.

This full scene is pretty silly but it is easy and fast to remember. Now only thinking about the concept needed I see somehow the objects and the concept is already strong in my mind. So yeah after studying actively and understanding the concept I create this ridiculous story for memorize it almost verbatim.

For your example I would problably use this scene:

Some people like (a couple people with joy) to pursue (pursuintg with Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit cars) hobbies (hobbits from lord of the rings) in their leisure time (in a playground/amusment park). A helthy hobby (muscular hobbit) keeps them active (a green light as it man is active) and busy (doing a lot of work) in a productive way (in a factory).

So the full scene would be:

You see a a couple people driving need for speed cars pursuing hoobits in their leisure time at a playground. After you pass this scene you look muscular hobbit with green lights in thir back while they are doing a lot of work in a factory.

You can make all in one scene or use 2 scenes (like I did) if it make sense to you. Using a memory palece to alocate the scenes/images will make it even stronger because it will have spacial hooks too.

I would recommend you to read books, topics in this forum and pratice to get better in creating images. My images are not the best, I sure can improve it, but I believe that using the memory techniques is the best way to get better, in other words go and try yourself to find what works better to you.

You will see that with some silly images your brain will remember the text. The techniques that people help us to leran here are very powrful to remember thigns with ease.

How much time does it take.i want it for exams can you help me please? I am in high school

I remember an interview with the actor Robert Downey jr (Iron Man) where he describes a method for learning text. What you do is nothing more complex then:

  • write the first letter of each word:
  • look at part of the text and then repeat while looking at the corresponding first letters.

So the sentence:

Some people like to pursue hobbies in their leisure time, a healthy hobby keeps them active and busy in a productive way.

becomes the following first letter sentence:

S… p… l… t… p… h… i… t… l… t…, a h… h… k… t… a… a… b… i… a p… w… .

I hope this works for you.

Hello,

What you mean with “how long it takes”? Please explain better so we can help you

Be wary of people making claims like this. While it is technically possible, it is an enormous time commitment and does not translate to gaining understanding of a subject. Memorizing is not the same as learning or understanding. Ideally, learn and understand first, then memorize the key bits that need to be exact.

I can tell you the atomic weight, symbol, and number of every element on the periodic table from memory. I wanted to see if I could use the memory techniques I had learned to accomplish that and approached it as a mental exercise in using my system. It did not give me any understanding of chemistry, of what elements are for, or of anything beyond the actual data table. I would have flunked a chemistry test if there were any practical or applied understanding questions on it.

Not to discourage you, but I think people need to have realistic expectations and understanding of the limitations and time and mental energy commitment that needs to be made to get proficient in these techniques and then where they are useful in application. Just memorizing textbooks verbatim (even if it could be done quickly enough to be ready for a test in a limited timeframe) won’t be enough to get you through. Carefully applied memory techniques for key points and crucial exact details will be much more useful, but neither will replace the effort of engagement with the intent of understanding first.

He is 100% right! You can memorize a bunch of things but (althought its possible) is not worth at all trying to memorize entire books verbatim.

Sorry for not describing my problem in detail my problem is memorizing text.my mother lamguage is not english.so i am not very good at it.i would like to describe my problem in two parts theory(text) and practical(understanding/application)

I have no problem in understanding as it is very important for exams.but i have less time for memorization and i am not very good at it.also i am feeling not motivated in this class as i was passionate for studies before.i am looking for a method or something so i can deal with the text.i can put text in my own words but mistakes in it are way higher than when i cram the text.please help me also if you know technique you used in your life for studies please tell me it doesnoy matter if it was mnemonocs or not.
