Most of what I read is about practical, test-based uses. But I’m curious to know if anyone has used a memory technique for more “invisible” benefits. Emotional health, serenity, spirituality, religion, motivation… that stuff is important for humans too!
I’m aware that Giordano Bruno did (in the 16th century).
I think this would be good. I’d like to have some feel-good, sunshiney palaces. ![]()
I’ve started the podcast of Anthony Metivier talk a lot about being relaxed while creating memory and you will get this feeling back when recalling it.
I’ve been playing around right now with the weel of emotion trying to create box in my mind to feel a specific emotion like in this post "Body-journey": Remembering physiological-emotional states by imagining moving the body through space
It’s pretty awesome I have a set of 4x4 box and when I feel an emotion I can name I go to the box to “paint it” with how I feel. Before going to bed I walk in those box and try to reproduce the sensation. It work extremely well and help me a lot with my emotions. I discovered also sometime I create a stair to go from sad to peace or anxiety to relax.
What I found is:
- box need to be empty I visualize a glass box and try to see only me in it nothing else
- if I cant feel a sensation I trigger it with a memory and then only focus on the body sensation and it get back
- It work extremely well to move from an emotion to another quickly by visualizing the body walking like in the post
I’m working on it. I’ve decided to avoid contemporary approaches and focus on Fludd, Bruno and Dicsone. Their approaches are clearly built for spiritual development; to me the practical use of their system is a side benefit.
Looking at Fludd, for example, his Round Art appears to be explicitly intended for spiritual topics, while the Square Art is for the mundane.
On the emotional side, I have an eventual goal to memorize the totality of human emotions. I figure that by internalizing their names and attributes, I will develop my emotional intelligence in a very positive way.
Maybe one could have journeys dedicated to uplifting poetry, concepts, and favorite memories to revisit, organized by certain virtues or themes.
