Gianni Golfera - GiGoTec

Hi everyone,
I just came across a video of Gianni Golfera, an Italian mnemonist, earlier today. I had not heard of him before. His system is called “GiGoTec” (GIanni GOlfera TECnica). I found a copy of one of his books “Più Memoria” but have only just starting reading it. According to Wikipedia there was a scandal regarding his use of marked cards during a memory demonstration on TV. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gianni_Golfera

Has anyone here read any of his books? I’m not sure if this book is also available in English. Perhaps I will post some translations of the key ideas of his method after finishing the book.

I don’t think he is a special mnemonist. I think the same as others, who trained their mind a lot :slight_smile:

Here his website http://www.giannigolfera.com/

Hi

I know him I did his course.
I read all his book in Italian, and I think he his just one who trained himself a lot, his method derive from the Giordano Bruno books Le ombre delle Idee, Il canto di Circe, Il sigillo dei sigilli Giordano Bruno - Wikipedia.

For example his number method his in [italian]:
number: Vocal: image: color

1: le: candela [candle] :lilla [lilac]
2: ne: cigno [swan]: nero [black]
3: ma: forcone [pitchfork]: marrone [brown]
4: re: sedia [chair]: rosso [red]
5: fe: cavalluccio marino [seahorse]: fucsia [fuchsia]
6: be: ciliegia [cherry]: blu [blue]
7: te: falce [sickle]: turchese [turquoise]
8: ge: pupazzo di neve [snowman]: grigio [grey]
9: pe: palloncino [balloon]: pistacchio [pistachio]
0: ze: salvagente [life jacket]: zafferano [saffron]

The object are chosen because they are similar at the number, and the letter is from the first letter of the color.

after find a image for every number from 00-zazà [characters in lupin III ] to 99-papa [pope], I got some pdf with number-image-name from the course to help me train

There is also another website in italian http://www.ricordamela.com/ with some video example to teach japanese language

That’s interesting. I also have vocalization and color for my images:

0 = “o” = soccer ball = white
1 = “i” = candle = yellow
2 = “u” = swan = blue
3 = “aa” = butterfly = green
4 = “a” = flag = black
5 = “ai” = hook = brown
6 = “ih” = elephant = pink
7 = “e” = boomerang = orange
8 = “ei” = snowman = purple
9 = “uh” = balloon = red

Double digits are like this:
10 = TO
11 = TI
12 = TU
etc.

Triple:
100 = TOS
101 = TOT
102 = TON
etc.

With the golfera number system :

Double digits are like this:

00 ZeZe = Zazà

10 LeZe = Lazzo [lasso]
11 LeLe = Lilla [lilac]
12 LeNe = lana [wool]

99 PePe = Papa [Pope]

Triple digits:

100] 1 color lilla + 00 ZeZe = a Zazà color Lilla
101] 1 color Lilla + 01 Zulù = a Zulù color Lilla
etc

Can be also

100] 10 lazzo + 0 color zafferano = a lazzo color zafferano [saffron]
101] 10 lazzo + 1 color lilla = a lazzo color lilla[lilac]
etc

All Golfera Method follow the E.M.AI.CE rule to trig the long term memory

E = Esagerato [Exaggerated]
M = Movimento [Movement]
AI = Associazione Inusuale [Unusual Association
CE = Coinvolgimento Emotivo [Emotional involvement

So to remember 335 678 I will image my Mother [33= MeMe = Mamma] [Emotional involvement] with a dress colored fuchsia [5] driving [Movement] a enormous [Exaggerated] grey [8 = grigio] barrel [67 = Botte] in the sky [Unusual Association]

Interesting system…

Hmmm… I was just re-reading my sounds for numbers and they are the same as Greek definite articles (o, i, to, tu, ton). This should make memorizing the grammar easier. (Today’s project.)

My father recorded a radio interview n BBC Radio 4 (Yesterday he thinks) with Gianni Golfera. The interviewer introduced him as the person that has the best memory in the world. The opportunity was there for him to correct the interviewer but, he chose to lead the public to believe this was true. His English was good enough to understand this mistake so, it’s inconceivable that it was a language translation issue.

It’s interesting how memory people market themselves. :slight_smile:

This article says that there might be a genetic component:

And in Spanish, it says he has memorized 14,000 poems:

LinkedIn says he knows 261 books word-for-word.

Nice system. Mine is similar, but more strict and simple with 5 digits per person if I add my color to it.
Example: Kim K.Pink (Kim Kardashian on pink/pink skin) = 76376

The colors assigned to the numbers sound like the numbers themselves. Seame vowel sound.

0. Zero – [ziroʊ] the [oʊ] sound sounds like 0. Alternate: None. Color Yellow
1. One – [wʌn] the [ʌ] sound sounds like 1. Alternate: [aʊ] as in House. Color: Russet Brown
2. Two – [tu] the [u] sound sounds like 2. Alternate: [ʊ] Wood [ju] You or [jʊ] Europe. Color: Blue
3. Three – [θri] the [i] sound sounds like 3 which is a long E vowel sound. Alternate: None. Color Green.
4. Four – [fɔr] the [ɔ] sound sounds like 4. Alternate: [ɑ/ɒ] as in Pot or [ɝː] Earth. Color: Purple or Orange
5. Five – [faɪv] the [aɪ] sound sounds like 5. Alternate: None. Color: White
6. Six – [sɪks] the [ɪ] sound sounds like 6. Alternate: [ɔɪ] as in Boy. Color: Pink
7. Seven – [sevən̩] the [e] sound sounds like 7. Alternate: None. Color: Red
8. Eight – [eɪt] the [eɪ] sound sounds like 8. Alternate: None. Color: Gray
9. Nine – [naɪn] the [aɪ] sound has been taken by 5, so I used the alternate sound [æ] as in Mat. Color: Black
That was how I picked my sounds and colors for the numbers above.

My system is very simple if you like phonetics and 90% of my images are celelbrities mostly musicians. So, it’s very easy to memorize. All you have to do is watch their videos on YouTube or listen to their songs, but there is no need for that.

Note: My 0-9 or 00-99 doesnt use sound. Just the consonants are assigned numbers and all the consonants in the English language are used.

Example of my 0-9 system.

0: Siya (si) is an American female rapper and she’s my #0

1: T.I. (ti) is an American rapper and he’s my #1

2: Ne-Yo (ni) is an American singer and he’s my #2

3: M.I (mi) is a Nigerian rapper and he’s my #3

4: Riya (ri) is a Japanese singer and she’s my #4

5: Lia (li) is a Japanese singer and she’s my #5

6: Joe (jo) is American singer and he’s my #6

7: Kay (k) is a Canadian singer and she’s my #7

8: Faye (fay) is a Swedish singer and she’s my #8

9: BoA (bo) is a Soutth Korean singer and she’s my #9

And do so…
