I have Auditory Processing Disorder, APD.
Dyslexia and speech difficulties can be common for people with APD, affecting learning and memory. They may not be able to remember what is said, or not the order it was said in.
Many learning resources are audio reliant and with APD it is easy to lose track of what you’re listening to or have delayed understanding of what’s being said. You may rely on lip reading, transcripts, subtitles, pictures.
I was wondering if anyone else has this and how it has affected their learning journey.
I have always enjoyed learning languages and find I can’t distinguish what language is being spoken regardless of whether it’s one I know, unless someone tells me they’re speaking that language. Before sight loss, sign language and deadline manual was very helpful to me in a few situations, as I had no problems tracking it whatsoever.
I can’t remember easily what’s been said, and often get lost in the conversation and have to try reorientate myself back into it again. It’s a strange disorder.
