Do you find describing mental images useful for memory?

I’ve noticed that when I create internal descriptions of my mental images, they tend to stick with me better. For instance, when I visualize an apple, I find that if I describe it to myself as I picture it, like saying, “Okay, there’s a shiny red apple with a reflection on the floor, bright and vivid,” it becomes way more memorable, and I can recall it more easily.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? What are your thoughts on this?

Yes. Sometimes I even write out descriptive stories. There is a reason we can “see” a good book in the mind’s eye, methinks.
