The problem is that I don’t know all of the characters on the list due to the fact that the number-letter system is really limited, and I had to look a lot of them up. I was wondering if this will reveal itself a problem, or will I be able to use the list by just watching some video’s on youtube? Another problem that I’ve encountered is attributing actions to some of the characters due to the fact that I don’t know them really well.

I also have 4 guitarists and a couple singers in my list and would like to have some opinions on what actions I can attribute to them (so that only 1 will actually play the guitar and only 1 will be singing)

I am also not using any cartoon or video game characters (really tempting) because I’ve been told that it is much more effective to use real people so that you can see their face and the emotions they express.

Anyways can Someone help me fill in some of the gaps please?? And since I’m only 20, if someone can suggest some alternatives to some of the characters on my list with some more modern celebrities I would really appreciate it!

You don’t have to follow the letter system exactly. In his books, Dominic O’Brien says that you can also use an association method where you use an image of the first thing that comes into your mind for that number. An example that he often uses is that Dudley Moore is 10, because he was in a movie called 10.

Have you seen the Dominic system lists in the wiki? (I also added a link to this thread from that page.)

If there are some characters that you don’t like (or that don’t stick), I’d try to find a way to change them to characters that you do like. I’ve been changing some of my images, and the new ones are much better.

My add-ons would be

04- O’Dee (leprechaun) - jumping over rainbow - pot of gold
12- Archie Bunker - sitting in a wingback chair Pic
51- Ed Asner (as old man from “UP” - holding balloons - flying away Pic
75- Santas Elf - working at a wooden table - toys
85- HE man - swinging - sword
89- HaN solo - firing blaster - droid
96- ??? (looking for a good one here too).

My Dominic list can be found in the second half of the first post HERE

“I am also not using any cartoon or video game characters (really tempting) because I’ve been told that it is much more effective to use real people so that you can see their face and the emotions they express.”

Bart Simpson, UP guy, Charlie Brown are way too good to pass up

96 - Nigel Short (Chessplayer), Neil Sedaka (Singer), NaSty nick (Actor). Big Bird (NeSt), Constipation (No S***)

If your response is to me and my 96, one thing I forgot to mention… my 96 and 97 are reversed

For me, a 6 looked waaaay too much like a G for my liking. Same with S for 7. I too have Nikki Sixx (Mötley Crüe) with a big pentagram swinging from his neck but mine is 97.

96 is Newt Gingrich, a very forgettable American politician on an elephant. Borrrring. I have the same problem with my 90. What the hell can I do with Dr. No?? Although I could use Norman Osbourne on a glider for 90. Or 66. But then where does Satan spewing fire go? Sheeeit time to move stuff around again

No could be Joe 90 if you know who that is. If you can’t think of one, you can just think of anyone whose name begins with the letters NO. Norman Bates or something. If you can’t find a person to fit the letters at all, you can find an object that contains the letters instead. So their object would always be the 90 and the person can be anyone.

Oh, and yes, I was talking to you. I got a bit lost with what you meant. Write down the ones you are stuck on and i’ll see if I can think of something to help. Even if I can’t, it will be here so that someone else can. That’s the whole point of the site. So that people can help each other whenever they have time.

Write just the letters down. It makes no difference what the number are to me.

Hey everyone thanks for your replies!

Thanks Divrom I think I might use some of those!!

The problem you are having is precisely the reason I don’t use the major system or any other similar. The point of using such a system is not because it is especially good whilst you learned it, but that it may be easier to learn. However, if you struggle to easily associate numbers to pegs I suggest that you do as I have and just randomly assign pegs that you think will work well as pegs. Of course it will be a bit more difficult to learn, but your goal is to learn the list of by heart anyway so it hardly makes much difference.

Just to clarify - and hopefully not patronise - Dominic does correctly advise to only go down the initials route if a number doesn’t already mean something to you.

So, I have 31 as a Fire-Fighter, because I lived at that house when we had a serious fire.
I have 65 as an OAP, because that was the age of retirement.
69 could be Buzz Aldrin.
00 could be someone who says, “Ooh!” a lot.
13 is Freddie Kruger, because it made me think of him.
24 is Bob Dylan, initially because his birthday is May 24th. Just a nice coincidence that it’s also the correct initials!
30 is my ex, because the 30th was our wedding anniversary.

Then there’s the mid-level encoding. E.g. 14 is Jesus Christ because it is A.D.
72 is the Queen, as it is GB.

So, don’t get too hung-up on the full process.

Don’t know if that helps?

OA. Neo in a phone booth/Juan the coffee guy holding a donkey
OE. Castle guard guys from OZ singing “O-E-O” while wearing ruby slippers
AO. Ashley Olson swinging a big orange purse
AS. Adam Sandler clicking a remote at a TV
BD. Barney the Dinosaur holding a big yellow star
BE. Barbara Eden (I Dream of Genie) on a carpet
DB. Drew Barrymore flashing boobs
EB. Ernest Borgnine holding a starfish (merman from Spongebob)
EC. Eric Cartman on a tricycle
GO. Gary Oldman (Serius Black) holding an Azkaban sign
GE. Gloria Estefan holding a GE lightbulb
GH. George Hamilton holding a tanning mirror
SA. Steve Austin (6 million dollar man) standing beside Sasquatch
SC. Sean Connery firing machine gun
HC. Howard Cosell holding ABC mike
HG. Hermione Granger waving a magic wand
NO. Dr No holding a blow up doll (doooooon’t ask :-).
NG Newt Gingrich riding an elephant

Anything in bold is a gotta go. The others are usable but if something comes up better I’ll happily take

Jim

It’s kind of hard using these images when you speak Portuguese :-/
But I’ll keep trying to find some images that fits in my language!

Are you using the Dominic system or major system? The Dominic System tends to use the initials of people. If you can find familiar names with those initials, it should work in any language.

I’m using the Dominic’s System! Actually, i’ve already got all them! For those letters I could not come up with a name I picked an image like for the number 11. I do not remember any famous person or animation character thas has the letters AA in the name. So I related the September 11th attacks to the number. The images of the planes crashing into the buildings are unforgettables
