I had never really practiced speed cards, I only did some speed number training years ago, my times with cards where around 5-10 minutes and I only had a system of single images for cards.

So, two weeks ago I made a weird system to test, it´s a PA/OA that assigns a syllabe and a character or object with an action to each card, with the phonetic code for the number and a vowel for the suit. It is designed with the idea to gradually become a second level system with 2652 artificial two syllabe words with time and practice. Hearts are fictional characters and syllabes with O, clubs fictional objects and syllabes with E, diamonds real characters and syllabes with I, spades are real objects and syllabes with A. When two cards appear together, I can use the system in two ways, as a PA, or with the two cards combining like kind of morphemes to create a new unpredictable meaning, if I did the previous work to see what that combination of syllabes means.

I keep a diary of my times, i´ll translate part of it here, they are not impresive by any means but i´m improving! what I worry about are my recalling times, I´m chill reconstructing the deck like a puzzle with no hurry, I don´t know if I should do something about that or it will be fixed automatically when I become better.

Brilliant! I was exhausted just watching your video. My current aim is to beat 2 minutes. If I can manage that, it means that by the time I’ve memorised about 11 cards, you’d have finished the pack!

I am at 12 minutes 50 seconds from 20 minutes.

I decided to tweak up a practice a bit from doing only memorise cards I alternate it with reviewing my action and object to come up with faster image.

I was stuck in 4:20 minutes for months and I was now able to improve when I started using a metronome. It made me realize how much time I lose with thoughts that have nothing to do with the actual memorization process, now I have a way to continue improving, but I think i´m becoming too dependant of it.

I’ve never tried using a metronome, but I’m thinking it might be the next step for improving my times. If it still improves your times without a metronome, it’s worthwhile.

I’ve been using the train feature on memory league recently, it only gives you a minute to memorise as many cards as possible. I went from getting scores of like 12 to 28 in a week, doing it ~4-5 times a day. It just gave me confidence in my mind to remember the images I’d made even when going quickly.

I was completely shocked when I went to memorise a full deck after that and it only took me 4 minutes, my PB before that was something like 10 minutes.

My record is now 34 in a minute, and 2:02 to memorise a full deck and I set out with the goal of a consistently sub 2 minute time, so getting close!

4:35. 100% retention after 3 hours with lunch in between. Very surprising since I usually erase it quickly.

Many works recently, but i am continuing practice at least a game in ML each day. Hitting lvl 8 s ground multiple times, not firm.
