Thanks Simon. OK, it shall henceforth be known as the Simon System (I like the alliteration of that name)
Do you still use the journey approach for rembering the sequence of the cards? Would you be prepared to expand a little further on the description of the Simon System, perhaps giving an example of how you would memorise the following in sequence : Ace Spades, 9 Hearts, 7 Clubs, and 3 Diamonds? Thanks.
I’d love to be able to say that I was S) but the truth is I obviously wasn’t paying attention. Glad that somebody was. Thanks Simon (and sorry Nelson ).
Hi, my best time is 2:51 and I use 52 objects in 52 locations.
Each suit is a category of object (i.e. hearts are animals, diamonds are foods) and I try to find objects that match the card (i.e. 6H = snail, 6D = croissant, 6C = sticky tape, 6S = tape measure – all spirally things that remind me of sixes).
I’ve been practising every day for about three weeks now but had previously given it a go a number of years ago without much success or enthusiasm. This time around I’m really enjoying it!
My best time with 52 correct is exactly 5:00 minutes. With PAO in 52 locations.
Interesting story. I’ve been using the PAO system for the last few weeks with good speeds of about 3 minutes but my accuracy was unreliable (from 35 to 50). So this morning I decided to do 52 locations with the PAO of a single card in each location. My first try was 5:57 with 45 correct. The second try was 5:00 with perfect recall. 5 minutes has been my goal. Thanks to Nelson for emphasizing the total learning of the PAOs for each card to take out the hesitation. To do that I used the Memoriad software and timed just going through the PAO equivalencies of decks until I got that under 60 seconds.
And thanks to the folks on Josh Cohen’s forums for the info and inspiration.
2:45 for me. I’ve been making changes to my objects and locations to make them more memorable as per Paul D’s suggestions. I’ve also found taking a break for a couple of days beneficial but it helps to go through the cards a few times prior to shuffling to re-familiarise myself with the objects.
