Brainstorming for "A List Of Most Common Abstract Words & Images"

One of my weaknesses is to find an image for an abstract word while memorising stuff.
Although I can find an image if I have all the time in the world, but most of the time I don’t have that luxury. So why not have a list we can use as a source?

There are many posts, tips and methods about converting abstract words into tangible images here on the forum, but can’t seem to find a full list of the words and the corresponding images, so I thought it may be a good idea to have a post with a list of the words and brainstorm the images that we can all contribute towards.

I’ve copied the most common abstract words from this website here;

The Challenge is to find images for each abstract word. Let’s see how we go.
Please participate and let’s find the images for each of these.

Please also add more words and images to the list below and let’s grow it.

This post could be a good source for finding images for abstract words which would be a great help for all of us.

What tangible image do you see when you see or hear any of these words?
How do you link the two together?

Are you up for the challenge?
Even a single image for a word listed or not listed here could be a great help!
Please copy the ones you can provide an image/link for and paste it into your reply.
I’m excited to see what images we can come up with!

Do you need an exact 1-to-1 relationship between a noun and its image?

Or are synonyms acceptable?

For example, a quick glance gives me the following:

bravery, courage
contentment, happiness
envy, jealousy
honesty, integrity

If you insist on a 1-to-1 relationship, then the images for synonyms will similar.

In that case, when you dereference the image, it might be difficult to arrive back at the originally intended noun - rather than one of its synonyms. (If you follow my drift.)

Actually, it’s a tangible image that we can match with the words.

Here is an example;
Trust - Handshake.

I can’t see trust as an image but I can see a handshake between 2 people, so the words Trust is always a Handshake for me.

Another one;
Beauty - The Beast from the movie Beauty and the Beast. I remember it very well, so it’s the Beast character from the cartoon that reminds me of the word Beauty and I can just imagine that image to remind me of it.

Bravery: Mel Gibson Fighting Very “Bravely” in the movie Brave heart. So Mel Gibson is the image for me for the word Bravery.

Courage - This is a little different, I imagine an Old car which is my old Ford Escort that used to give me all sorts of trouble, it was an old banger.
Cour - Car | age - Old = Old Car (My old Escort).
So my Old Ford Escort is the tangible image I use.

Coldness - Eskimo person | Ice Cubes Nested | A Nurse who is cold and shivering.

Charity - Oxfam is the most famous Charity shop, and the logo of it is my image.
Also, Cha is Tea in many languages, so a Cha Tea could also be a good one to use.

Strength - Muscular Arm

Romance - Rome & Lovers Kissing. The famous Pisa Tower and a couple kissing.

Luck - Shamrock four leaf clover

Victory - V sign with fingers

Wealth - A pile of paper money bills (Stack of dollar bills or any type of money)
I see Bill Gates soon as I see the word Wealth.

Service - Hotel reception Bell.

Customer Service - Headband | Handsfree Headset with a Microphone.

Sleep - Pillow

Memory - Brain

Thought - Hands on my Head

Energy - Albert Einstein (E = Mc2) | Laser beam | Electric Cable

Once we find the matching images, we can then link the two together that makes sense.

Examples;
Violence - Violins.
My nephew is a musician hitting me over the head with his Violin. I hit back with my violin. Some violence there :slight_smile:

Service - Hotel reception Bell.
Imagine you keep hitting the bell at a hote receoption and nobody comes and you keep shouting “Service please, anyone here?”

Coldness - Cold Nurse.
Your Nurse arrives your house cold and shivering and puts on the heat/radiators etc.

Beauty - The Beast is Marrying the Beauty walking down the aisle.

Once we practice these images initially with a mini-story-link a few times, I think then it will just appear as tangible images and we won’t even need the story-link anymore.
