Came across this stunning artwork earlier today and thought it too good not to share on this forum. The artwork contains over 100 famous/infamous people. A work like this therefore gives one a ready-made list of 100 characters which can be traversed from top left and moving towards the right hand side of the painting (as you would read a book in the English language). I think it is amazing to stumble across an instant ‘set of 100 people’ that could be used as a ready-made “People Peg Word System”, albeit the challenge is to first identify exactly who the 100 odd people (some living, some dead), actually are in the painting?
Incidentally the little-known Taiwanese artists Dai Dudu, Li Tiezi and Zhang An, who are responsible for painting this ‘masterpiece’ appear towards the top-right-corner of the picture.
The art work was completed in 2006, and is titled: “Discussing The Divine Comedy With Dante”. It appears to be a metaphor for our unsaturated celebrity-obsessed world. I was wondering how many of the people in the painting forum members can recognize? A good deal of the celebrities are Chinese communist leaders and poets little known outside Asia.
I found a link below which gives a higher resolution of the people in the painting. By hovering the cursor over the people their names appear for you.
