Are stress and memory related?

in this video they have shown stress can improve your memory is that true?

does that mean that we can stress ourselves while studying?

Hi jacky

The youtube video you posted is really interesting. I think for memories to be formed via stress, the memories stem from activities/situations which are meaningful to the person. The intuitive Firefighter, as we saw in the video, his job and training can be stressful. The memories from training and fire fighting experiences, which saved his colleagues lives, I believe were formed because they had meaning to him.

I’m guessing that not everything you study has meaning to you? And some information will be more meaningful than others. Information that is meaningful is said to provide ‘deeper learning’ whereas information that is meaningless or not so meaningful provides ‘superficial learning’.

Memory techniques, such as memory palaces, can aid superficial learning to pass exams but the information that has meaning to you, you should be able to pass without using memory techniques or with very little use, as the knowledge originates from your deeper ‘formed’ learning.

So there’s no need to overly stress whilst studying

I like your title; are stress and memory related. This is because some people are thought to have memory problems when in fact they are just absent now & again from the present due to being occupied with their thoughts/stress. It’s not poor memory, the person just didn’t take in the information in the first place.
