Any ideas for memory games for my 3-5 year old grandsons?

I’d love for them to get the seeds of a great memory planted. We’ll have them for a week soon.

My initial thoughts:

  1. The old “I’m going on a trip and I’m going to take…” game. I wonder about walking the house while playing it to train loci?
  2. Making funny pictures out of people’s names?
  3. Making pictures out of plant or animal names?
  4. Making some kind of memory board or memory stick craft (a la Lynne Kelly)
  5. Making up some memory songs?

Anyone have some experience with this? They have terrific imaginations and this could be fun (depending of course on how I present it to them…)

All of those activities seem like they could work. Memorizing pi (“pie”) with number shapes and number rhymes might be fun. Alphabet peg systems can also work with kids. They might also like creating memory palaces for animals, dinosaurs, or cartoon characters.

I liked this song when I was a kid:

I had started this topic as my daughter loves mnemonics too, and others shared their experiences too which is really lovely, I used it for inspiration too a few times. Maybe you can find some things to do here.

I like the ideas you got so far

Yes, I love it. Thanks for pointing it out!
