Anchor Points for Academic Treatment of Architecture

I will be taking an academic writing course this semester that will train us on how to research and write academic papers. To teach us this, the professor is focusing on architecture, the “built environment.” We’ll be reading texts about architecture and writing about it, speaking in its language to argue points about what we read.

The class is graded entirely on the essays and our ability to research and cite, not on fact recall. However I would like to prepare by creating anchor points (schema) in my memory to help make the reading experience more memorable.

I’m looking for suggestions. Here are my ideas:

  • A timeline - but about what?
  • The whose who - but what kind of people?
  • Some idea you give me

I suspect it will focus on modern architecture, but I don’t want to consider anything out of scope as it’s all connected.

For techniques under my belt, I have method of loci, major system, 00-99 PAO, and peg system.

Thank you!
