A small memory journey: Alice in Wonderland

Hello, made this small journey some time ago.
It presents a few interesting features:

  • it is a journey, which means every place only appears once; it is a bunch of mini adventures in following locations following the rabbit
  • it has very vivid images: hard to forget the happy tea party with the mad hatter

It could be extended with way more loci. However, it is a good beginner one. Don’t ask me why I put 3 loci at the rabbit’s house and only 1 in the carpenter’s story. I think the loci are pretty impossible to mix up, we have 20 in total.

Loci 1: dreaming in the tree

The website http://disneyscreencaps.com/ has a bunch of Disney movies, it seems like 1 image per 1/2 second, and is pretty useful to make a loci journey, since you can overview quickly rather than screenshooting on your computer.

I have done a journey for kungfu panda that I know. Here we have a problem, some places appear several times in the movie. So I just choose either the first time the place appears, or the most representative scene. For example, in the leopard prison, I use it as a loci the second time, that is with leopard escaping and the ensuing battle.
I don’t put too many loci because there are enough stories that I can remember without going through the hassle of distinguishing properly between 2 identical scenes. Maybe I should change my views later when I start needing way more space.

Thanks, Keref. This looks like a fun way to build a memory palace. I will give it a try.

NICE!

Thank you for sharing!

A friend of mine has done similar things with disney films. I myself did it with The Hobbit, as there are a lot of different places the movie passes through. I ended up with about 50 loci there ^^ movies can be a great source for memory palaces.

I might try this. I’ve been thinking of how I want to memorize the Yang Style Taiji Long Form which has 103 moves (there are technically more since some are grouped together in the numbering). This would be my first very big test as I need 103 loci. I might try to create a memory palace in Mulan or King Fu Panda for it.

My instructor would be very impressed as I would be able to recite the whole form backwards or tell you immediately what number a move is. I don’t think even he can do that.
