15 Best Speed Reading Exercises
I was frustrated with my slow reading speed and I came up with these exercises
At the end of 15 days you’ll see reading in a different way. I’m not promising you an overnight success, but there will be a smile on your face if you did.
- Symbols ONLY. Like (~, `, !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), _, -, +, =, |, , {, }, [, ], <, >, and most importantly comma and period)
- Capitalized words at the beginning ONLY.
- Proper nouns - names of people / organizations ONLY.
- Concrete nouns - other things we can touch ONLY.
- Numbers and Dates ONLY.
- Bad, Racial, Sexual, Scary and Offensive words ONLY. Example: stupd, s**, s**, f***, kill, explode etc.
- New/Strange words ONLY.
- Old words with confusing meaning (to you) ONLY.
- Field/Subject based words ONLY. Example: ‘calculate’ belongs the Math, ‘pray’ belongs to religion etc.
- Long/Combined words ONLY. Example: ‘insignificant’, passcode, restaurant, Documentary etc. Tip: When you see a long and unknown word like this “etikettierung’ you divide it into 3/4/5 letters word like etik, ettie and rung as fast as you can without stopping your speed reading process. If you can’t meet up in breaking it, just let it go.
- Abbreviated/Acrostic/Block letter words ONLY. Example: ‘CD’, ‘EGBDF’, ‘HOW TO…’ etc.
- Words ending with ‘ies’, ‘es’ or simply, words ending with an ‘s’ ONLY.
- Words ending with ‘ion’ and ‘ing’ ONLY.
- Words ending with ‘t’ and ‘d’ ONLY.
- Words ending with ‘y’ and ‘e’ ONLY.
Explanations.
- Symbols like (~, `, !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), _, -, +, =, |, , {, }, [, ], <, >, and most importantly comma and period) ONLY
Explained: This exercise will take you 1hr or less depending on the kind of book you’re using. For me I’m using ‘The Millionaire Mind’ by T. Har Eker, which is a 212 page book. In this exercise what you need are: a) A stop watch. B) A pen/pointer. c) Your eyes/concentration. The only things you’re looking for in this day 1 of your 15 day Speed Reading exercise are SYMBOLS, SYMBOLS, and SYMBOLS. Don’t ever try to read or understand the whole book. Look for those symbols with your pointer while going forward and backward. It should take you a second to do two lines. A second per line is also acceptable for a beginner. DON’T EVER READ. If you pronouunce a word by accident, don’t worry. Learn to percieve them instead of pronouncing them. Don’t ever let anything distract you the moment you start this exercise. Repeat this process from in day 2 to day 15. You can add more or edit the things to look for, for each day. Do the ones that confuses you the most.
BENEFITS OF THIS EXERCISE
- Your concentration will be 10 times better than it was before.
- Going faster during speed reading becomes easier.
- It pushes you to to the limit in knowing which group a word belongs to. And the faster you know the group the fast you move to the next line. With time you don’t need to know the groups anymore. It becomes second nature.
I don’t want to make this post long, so I’ll stop here for now.
