What is dual and back method?
There’s a quick explanation on the Wikipedia page. If that sounds interesting, do a search on YouTube and watch some videos.
I’ve been doing dual n back for 2 months, ~5x a week, 10-20 rounds a day, usually just 5 at a time. Haven’t noticed that any transformation effects but I also didn’t do any testing so far.
A week ago I switched to doing 20 rounds in a row in the morning right after waking up. And I mean this literally right after waking up, not even 1 minute later! Holy ■■■■! It’s been just a week but I feel massive impact on my daily life and also dream retention. I am more focused throughout the day, can easily recall details that usually go unnoticed, and most importantly, I was able to get an abstract understanding of a few things on the fly without very much focusing on them, and it also was a lot easier to further operate with them on that abstract level. The impact on my cognition is impressive so far.
Writing a dream journal has been a hobby of mine for years. I rarely could recall my dreams this detailed like for the last few days, and also my dream experiences are more vivid, complex and prolonged, this is probably especially due to me being able to remember more while dreaming.
From what I know of, image streaming is much more efficient than Dual n Back
I’ve done Dual N-Back training on and off for years - reaching as high as 7-back.
I’m a big fan. It noticeably improves my working memory: I’m a sharper web developer when I train regularly.
Working memory and long term memory are intertwined via the memory reconstitution so it stands to reason that it would improve long term memory as well.
I think it’s a pretty good adjunct to a mnemonics practice. And it only takes like 10 minutes a day a couple times a week, so why not?
I’m retired and have been doing the dual N-back. By the third month of doing the exercise every day, I started seeing an improved working memory. I continued to practice for over a year and I am doing an average N=5. Sometimes 6 sometimes 4. It seems to increase attention, speed and impulse control. A very good brain trainer.
