Studying - is it understanding or memorisation

I think you’ll understand it more and it will retain more in your memory if you visualize it. If you can “see” it yourself, then you can always remember it

This is 100% accurate in my case. If I can encode it by seeing it in my mind’s eyes,I can surely ‘understand and remember’ it better!

I want to bring this thread up again as I want to add.

To remember more, why not aim for the higher levels, and then memorize that…if necessary.

I mean, once we aim to criticize and compare the higher order-concepts we will have a vast network which will help us remember easier. That is if we apply the information in different context too and test it.

When I read something I want to memorize, I do not actively memorize it on the first read. I actively read it and try to understand then go back and memorize on review

If you see Bloom’s Taxonomy, you will find that ‘remembering’ is at the lowermost position. That means it is the basis of everything

Bloom’s Taxonomy :
1st level
Remembering
2nd level
Understanding
3rd level
Applying
4th level
Analysing
5th level

Remembering is the mother of all other cognitive domains

@elitely has already given this answer. I didn’t notice.

I think the “Peanut Butter Conspiracy Band” said it best in their hit song “Understanding” in the “1st eight words of the song” which rose to #2 position in our local South African Springbok Hit Parades at that stage.
