I do this too, I call it a “dispersed memory palace”. Any words beginning with ka are on the Kasernenwiese. Words beginning with Al are on the Alpenblickweg.
It allows to take advantage of our brain’s amazing capabilities of spatial memory while skipping the “building a sequential journey” step.
