Questions N2

I have seen a system that uses them as loci, which you can turn into a system for letters like that. However, it is too much repetition for me. For one, hands tend to be very similar left and right, and secondly, I would not be able to differentiate fingers in very long sequences.

But if you think it might work for you, go out and try.

Practice helps a lot with both creating and translating images.

None that I am aware of, but someone somewhere probably does it.

If you are interested in them, go out and try.

Generally, not. It does depend on how you view any of them.

There have been quite some arguments here on the subjects of intelligence and IQ. Some adore the concept, some (me being one) would rather have the entire concept of an IQ disappear from society and only be used in clinical settings.

But there is also another side to it. The more you know, the more you are able to learn. Each bit of knowledge is a hook to use when learning something new, which is also a process that mnemonics utilizes. But then still, there is way more to memory. Emotional contribution, focus, general state of mind, it is not a single thing. You can have an IQ of 80 and still remember everything about the people you meet because you are emotionally invested.

What do you mean here exactly?

Also, go out and try.

Image you are driving down a street at 50km/h. You can see the signs clearly and your car handles like a charm. Drive down that same road at 100km/h. All signs become a blur and you bounce all over the place.

Now, that is a metaphor that is meant for two things. One is that some contents are easier to speed read just like some roads are better for fast driving. A second is that your comprehension allows for faster reading in some texts.

You you grab a stephen hawking book. Good luck reading that at 1000wpm without loss of comprehension. Or grab Moby Dick, where the amount of metaphors will drive you crazy if you read it too fast.

If I read an introduction to anatomy book, I can read it at an average of 700-800wpm, as fast as I do simple novels. The texts might be hard for someone not practiced in it, but since anatomy is like a second language to me, i can easily get through it.

So if you want to see if speedreading works for something, go out and try.

That is because intelligence in any form is not just a capability to memorize, and memory is not dependent of your intelligence.

Back in my school days, we had a guy come to class in a dragon onesie occasionally. Teachers once told him to dress properly, and he would say that he was. And in fact, he was. He was fully dressed, just differently. In weekends, you could find him at his home high on some sort of drug, or downing some kind of new drink. And when graduation came, he was one of the few who graduated cum laude.

He wasn’t addicted, he wasn’t crazy, he wanted to experience. He knew the effects of all those drugs because he tried them, and his experiences became his hooks for additional information. He knew the responses of people towards different kinds of people, because he has dressed as all of them, and those experiences became hooks. He wasn’t super intelligent, he was experienced.

Note what I have been repeating at most questions. “go out and try.” That is not jsut a lazy way to shove your question aside, it is the best way to learn. Half of my systems have been created by trying. For my memory palaces, I am still trying to improve the creation of them.

I personally don’t like anything with “speed” as a prefix as they are generally ways to sell a product in the modern age. Back in the day you had things like the “Supersmartphone” and the “supercomputer” of which some terms sticked around and some were used to brand rip-off products from china. “speed” is the new “super”.

Also.

Go out and try.

By not having it intervene you with random memories of your invisible childhood friend’s dog named Floppy.

If that sounds random, it should. Our unconscious mind is less of a supercomputer running on the background and more like a monkey slamming random neurons until it hits the right one. An old study I read on autism (so discoveries might have change) mentioned that this is more common in autism, because of “shorter” wiring of the brain. Neurotypical brains tend to have longer, direct connections, like highways. Autistic brains have more short connections, like city roads. Going from A to D in a neurotypical brain can often be done with a direct connection, an autistic brain requires you to pass both B and C first. This is effective in finding hooks for new information, but it also causes a lot of associations. Associations is one way the subconscious mind is mainly using to mess up your dedicated focus, so learning to steer that is a huge step.

Also, practice. Go out and try. Make your mind so comfortable with memorizing that it turns into a flow state. The only way to reach that is by doing the tasks a lot.

Combining these two, as the answer is very similar for both.

Basically, don’t use drugs for memorization purposes. If you want to know what they do, try them in a controlled setting if such use is legal in your country, but don’t use them as a tool. In the end they do more harm than good and they don’t learn you anything. As I said in another topic where you asked some questions, don’t take the easy route.

Also, I believe that a stigma is referring to a disapproval of something. Not a positive expected trait. But perhaps someone can correct me on that.

Over-asking.
The best advice I can give is to go out and try, in case I didn’t mention it yet in this reply. We can’t tell you what will or won’t work for you, you have to find that out yourself. We can help you, we can give you advice, we can tell you our experiences, but we can’t tell you how to build your systems.

The sense is that it works for the creator.
It would not work for me, it might not work for you, but there are people who prefer this approach.
Just like that, there are people who prefer the major system. I personally hate working with the major system and use a catagory system instead. Doesn’t mean that the major system is bad, and it definitly doesn’t mean that the category system is better, it just means that I prefer one over the other.

If you want to know what works for you, go out and try
