Hi brother,
Good day ahead, when I go through your idea
to make use of PAO sticky you insist "TO LOCI " instead of at the loci, is it possible to given an example on this two situation at an To
Interesting. I just have everything at the loci and never to the loci
Hi, sure!
Take the PAO scene of Yoda, Throwing, a Piano. Imagine your location is a toilet.
One way to construct the scene would be to imagine the scene taking place on top of the toilet tank. Yoda throws a piano off of the side of the toilet.
Another way is to imagine that yoda throws the piano onto the toilet, breaking it and causing a flood.
I think that the second way is more memorable (at least to me), and easier to recall. When you try to remember what the scene was at the toilet there are additional clues when you use the location itself as an active part of the scene or have the scene cause something memorable to happen to the location.
If you think of the toilet location, you might be able to get to the scene by remembering that something happened to crush or destroy the toilet, you may get the sense that it was something big and heavy that landed on it. All of these clues can help point you back to the piano and the action.
If you just “place” the scene at the loci, you may have trouble making the connection back from the location to the contents of the scene. I know that when I look back on failed recalls of a location after a run, its usually because the scene was too generic and didn’t use the location in any way. Some folks like Donny don’t have any problem using locations as backdrops that are more like stages, so its very possible to be effective with that approach, and when you’re going extremely fast there may not be time to try to make that intentional connection, but I know it helps me!
Really thank you very much for spending time giving reply, one more doubt does our memory automatically differentiate the memory palace, or else we have to follow any specific way to remember which memory palace holds which data.
Apart from that please can to explain what does you felt first when you supposed to remember some things each 25 and another 25
Now my doubt is all of the sudden if you asked to remember how you process this, for example if I choose memory palace I go through from my gate through the hall, if it comes to another 25 does our memory go through the same memory palace route or else different, or else we have to stock memory palace s on reserve to store upcoming, because in normal situation we can review the memory palace, but in Competetion there is no chance for. Review so how the brain process this, hope I make some what clear asking you make you understand my question / doubt,
Thank you
Have a wonderful day
If you take care to use palaces that relate to the subject matter you’re memorizing it makes it easier. Facts about anatomy could go in a hospital. Science or chemistry could go in a tech lab. History in a museum. Or you can create a mental index or table of context. Or use a technical aid to organize your palaces. Nothing really wrong with keeping a simple google doc with lists of palaces and what general subjects are located where.
I’m not totally sure what you’re asking for, but it seems like you’re talking about re-using palaces for multiple topics or sets of information or making new palaces for new information?
This is going to be highly dependent on the individual.
Some people don’t have much difficulty storing many topics in the same palace. Some experience lots of confusion and interference when doing this. Only you can determine if this is a problem for your individual brain.
I know that for me, if I try to use the same palace for many different information sets, it gets confusing. It is much easier for me to figure out a new palace to use before tackling a new info set.
You mentioned competition and “stocking memory palaces in reserve.” I think by this you mean having a large set of available palaces tailored towards different competition events and then rotating through them so as not to cause issues repeating the same ones too often? This is definitely recommended. Having at least twice as many palaces as the number of events you want to practice or attempt each day will allow you to use your palaces every other day. On the days that they aren’t in use, they can be allowed to “reset” and the imagery in them to fade so that the next time you use them they will be less likely to ghost and cause interference.
For competition events you want to be able to recall the information within minutes of memorizing it, but you do NOT want to hold onto that information beyond the end of the event recall period. This means once you’ve recalled and scored your event, you should avoid repeating and recalling your imagery again because you WANT to forget it quickly so that you can use that palace again without interference. There’s no need to hold an 80 digit string of numbers or random words in long term memory. You want to flush it quickly after the event is over.
This approach is different from what you’d normally do when memorizing information that you do actually want to hold onto long term.
For long term retention for information that you have time to study and organize, it’s a good idea to craft a specific palace that fits the information and to only use that palace for that information. This way there’s no risk of interference with competing content, and you can customize your locations to your content, especially if you have any success with creating fictional palaces.
The answer to this will be different from person to person. It sounds like you may be hesitant to get started applying techniques because you’re concerned that you may “do it wrong.” I’d encourage you to just try things and figure out for yourself if certain ways work for you or not. Unless you have an unmovable deadline that is fast approaching and your livelihood or academic success depends on it, you should feel free to just start trying these techniques. You will make much more progress by experimenting with actual practice and self-evaluation after the fact than you will just theoretically analyzing and re-analyzing techniques that work differently from person to person.
Hi , thank you very much for your valuable feedback and ideas which give some intense knowledge to make it better understand the process let me practice and get back what suits me well
Excellent explanation. Thank you
