How are you structuring your 4-digit number system to generate your images? I think I remember hearing @SimonReinhard describe his 4d system as based on somewhat natural German phonetics so it provides actual words or beginnings of words that can trigger a visual. Are you attempting something similar?
The Shadow System is typically thought of as a 2-card system, based on 3-digit major system numbers plus additional structures for the remainders. Are you looking to attempt a larger card system too? As far as I can tell, a true 3-card system would require over 140,000 image associations (or at least around 70,000 if structured as a 2-block system.)
Or are you talking about choosing between “ben style” or “major system style” encoding?

I am also attempting something similar. My four-digit system, as well as the Ben system, is based on natural Chinese phonetics, using only initial consonants. Therefore, it provides words that can trigger visual stimuli.
About the larger 3-card system, I think it’s crazy, a completely impossible challenge. Ten thousand images can already drive a person insane. Mastering even ten thousand images can be maddening. If someone uses 70,000 or 140,000 images, it’s simply unimaginable.
I constructed a Chinese version of the Ben system @Zoomy for a speech system back in 2017, using only initial consonants (consonant sounds). Due to the powerful cloud server association function of Chinese input methods, it allows for quicker production when using all consonants. I have currently ceased the public release of 2 card version of the Ben system and the Chinese-based production method of the Shadow system. If you are interested, I can send it to you via email.
Due to the prevailing commercialization trend in the memory community in China, I am not particularly fond of seeing my freely available online content being taken and used for paid instruction by educational institutions in mainland China.
This is also fate. I saw on the forum that you are working hard to practice the Shadow System. It has motivated me as well, but I personally don’t quite like the conversion method and memory rules of the Shadow System. These two aspects can affect later-stage memory training.
Due to my acquaintance with many Chinese memory athletes, they can typically memorize a deck of cards in 13-19 seconds, primarily utilizing a 1 cards and PAO system. This has made me realize how crucial memory rhythm is. My goal is to establish a world record within 7-13 seconds using Ben’s 2-card system, and I believe this is feasible. As for the Shadow System, I feel that I cannot adapt to that rhythm.

I have a plan, I will practice the shadow system first and then I will use ben system. Because I want to participate in the 2024 SCC, Japan’s unique speed card championship.

From my current understanding of myself, it is difficult for me to practice words and names.
So I choose to give up and not spend too much time on them.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure.
My speed card can practice to within 15 seconds, or even within 10 seconds.
