I haven’t read Cal Newport’s other Deep Work book yet, but I stumbled on this summary, and people might find it interesting: “How to Build a Brain That Doesn’t Get Distracted”

I’ve read Deep Work a few times, I’d highly recommend it. Like any book there are things I disagree with, but overall the book is excellent.

Something particularly relevant to this form is his idea of “productive meditation”, where instead of trying to achieve single-pointed concentration by reaching a “no-mind” state, you pick a singular topic and make that your object of meditation.

It’s an idea that’s well facilitated by a memory palace. Pick something you’ve memorized, and run through it again and again, perhaps storing new ideas as they come up in a different palace.

I’m sure Cal Newport would love mnemonists.

It talks a little about how TikTok became so addictive by removing the “follow” concept.
