Yan will be there to offer some tips. I don’t know yet whether Cassox will be there.
My new best: 3minutes, 29seconds
Less L. method
I have not been indifferent to all the talk about the journey method 52 images, 52 locci being very good. Especially convincing was the testimony of Nightwalker. So I recently decided to give it once more a serious try with only changing the number of images used to 50. At first, I would test myself with only 15 then 30 cards until the results were good enough to got to a full pack of 52. Now I can stand behind that method in saying that it does work for me and that I believe it to be a fine way of memorizing cards. Thanks to all of you who have convinced me to give it a second chance. I have some suspicions as to why it didn’t work at first and if anyone is interested, I’ll share my thoughts on the causes of my original failure to make it work. Right now my best time with the 50 images 52 loci method is 8:03 seconds.
SL
I Memorised full deck of card today without any error!!
My best time without error is 5:14 now!
Method: Dominic System, 26 loci
Congratulations! I remember those times when I couldn’t get under 5 minutes… But once I got there, I became addicted on mnemonics! So be careful. ![]()
By the way, if you use Dominic system, set the same goal as Dominic O’Brien did: break the Creighton Carvello’s first word record for memorization of single deck of cards: get under three minutes (it was 02 : 59, something like that). I did the same thing, and probably it helped. Next time I saw Nelson Dellis memorize a deck of cards in 53 seconds. There will be always some motivation.
Good luck! ![]()
Thanks, I’d like to reach it!
I am not sure that I use a perfect system.
cards → numbers → letters → people+action
spade five → 15 → IS → ISTVAN (Istvan is a Hungarian name of my colleague)
spade four → 14–> IN → INDIAN → action: (an Indian) wears feather and dancing
So I imagine Istvan who wears special indian feathers on his head while he is dancing.
It requires 7 steps for one “picture”.
OK I’ll try to defeat Creighton Carvello, I promise:)
I used memoriad software and got a time of 3:30 using a PA system
Use the system that works for you. I use simple 52 images / 52 loci. The first system I came to contact with was peg system (Harry Lorayne’s book). 52 peg words for numbers, and 52 images. But it didn’t work, so I tried loci… And I’m still using it and it works fine. Nowadays, when I train speed cards, my times are 25 seconds (+ - 1 second). There are still errors, but the more I practice, the less errors there is. So maybe in not that far future I’ll finally reach my goal : 25 seconds or less without error. And I’m very lazy with creating and learning new images. I’m so happy it’s already my past (If I won’t change the system, of course).
I tried it, and it took me 40 seconds just to view images. Normally it’s 14-15 seconds. I would have to get used to it. But it confuses me. I lost concentration almost always when the card changes.
Have anyone ever tried Memoriad software for cards, who can do the deck of cards in under one minute? I don’t think it’s the best practice for some memory competition, except Memoriad. It’s “unreal”, and I don’t enjoy it. Just my feeling, no offense. Better something than nothing. ![]()
NIghtwalker,
You memorize a pack of cards in 25 seconds using the 52images/52loci method with only a few errors? That is phenomenal. Do you know of anyone else who has ever achieved this kind of speed with that method?
SL.
How about Boris? He can do that in 24 seconds without error. (He is my goal now). That’s the simplest method you can use, but it’s powerful.
Once, I could do it in 18,1 seconds with 6 errors, but I don’t know how. I have no evidence of that event.
Only my sister who was watching me. I just tried it, for fun, but I think that the order of the cards was good. I could associate them perfectly… Maybe some ghost images from yesterday, and few cards repeated at the same locus, and I just strengthened them. There had to be something unusual. I was thinking about it, what happened. But I can’t reach that speed now. It happened just once.
I posted it here… I really don’t count that time, I don’t even mention it. I know, it sounds weird.
Also for me.
Hi Nightwaker,
You right, Borris’ time is even posted up on the first page of this forum, I should have checked. I have recently received notice from WMC that they are changing the millenium standard to 24 seconds down from 25 seconds because three different people have done scores below the 25 second mark in recent competitions. I think these kinds of times are phenomenal as well.
18.1 seconds is the fastest time ever posted on this forum (with a few errors). Do you think that a time of 17 seconds is possible? I’m just curious about your thought on this.
Simon
If someone could view the images, and was able to change cards so quick, it’s possible. I’m sure that a lot of mnemonists can just view images in that time. When I came to 25 seconds I had problem, that I skipped some cards. I wanted be fast so I didn’t even see some cards. But training solved it, what else…
25 seconds aren’t “clear” anyway. But I had to improve other disciplines. Yesterday, I brought almost 300 pages of material for training. I downloaded all from WMC page, mixed it to one pdf, and one guy in the town printed it for 10€. It’s worth it, I think. Abstract images and names & faces would be big “color eaters”, so I would run out of the whole color from our printer immediately.
So I train speed cards only once a week. My other disciplines aren’t good, compared to the “Speed cards”. That’s why my goal is also improve everything else.
And I also have to get used to the people. When someone is watching me, I have horrible results. Do you have this experience, too? My mother is very happy, when she can mention my hobby, but with context “when I’m telling him something, he doesn’t remember anything”. And then everyone must see “what I do”.
I just memorized a deck in 4.02 seconds. I made 50 errors though. Got the first card and the last one correct.
0.3 seconds with 51 errors. Got you beat, Nelson. ![]()
■■■■, that’s good!
Nightwalker,
Sorry, I have never memorized a pack of cards in front of any one watching me (not even relatives) so I cannot provide an answer to your question. (This problem is part of the reason why I ran the first memory competition this past summer in my country.) I’m also glad you posted your 18.1 second time because it lends support to the claim by Simon Reinard that sub 18 second times are possible, a claim that no one before you seemed to be able to support.
By the way, your time of 18.1 second is still the fastest time ever posted on this forum (with only a few errors). (50 and 51 errors is way more than a few errors.)
SL
Ach, God, stop repeating that time! I feel horrible…
Really. There are professionals I can’t catch even in a dream, and this fact with combination of your claim “fastest time ever posted on this forum” makes me feel weird, because I had just luck, nothing else…
In Slovakia, football is a very popular sport, and almost every boy plays it. And you can find a lot of similar situations: “one boy is lucky, and the team won because of him…”… but it was his luck, not his experience, because he’s not even a good player… But he thinks he’s a boss.
Get the point? I don’t want to look like him. I don’t think I’m a boss, but a lot of people read this forum, and they have a different point of view. ![]()
Hi Nightwalker,
I won’t repeat your lucky time again. I didn’t’ mean to make you look like something that you are not before all those who read this forum, if this is what I did. You were lucky? That is entirely possible. It’s even possible to get the right order of a complete pack of cards simply by guessing all the cards! It only takes quite a bit of luck 52!(1:52X51X50X…) so a sub one second time is definitely possible when you think about it. It’s just a very uncommon occurrence. Also, if you take all the errors you made in your lucky recall into account, I think that your speed per correct card is not the fastest one ever posted on this forum. I won’t do the maths here because I would have to write your time down again.
Now the fastest times ever posted on this forum are by Hype 0:03 second, followed closely by Nelson 4:02 seconds!
Simon
just memorized a my first full deck in ages using the Dominic system.I’ve just been practicing 10 or 20 cards at a time and going through the images for each card.did the deck in 3mins 19 secs but with 5mins 1.9 seconds recall hahaha nearly had the recall under 5mins well maybe next time.it’s so great to see more people doing quicker times it shows any one can do it with practice.also it is great motivation for memory training and other tasks.like doing homework or learning for exams.this is such a great site everyone is so friendly and helpful.
Yeah, it’s great fun to see that practice really does make perfect! Just when you think it’s impossible to go faster you break another limit and some week later you’ve cut your time in half! ![]()
When I first got under three minutes I thought about the two minute line as a monster, then the 1 and 30, then one minute and now just some minutes ago I broke the 55 second barrier, making it in just above 53 seconds with no problems with the recall!
(Using PAO, 00-99)
It seems like it’s all just a matter of training more!
wow great time how long did it take to go from under 3 mins to under 2 minutes? how much did you train?how many decks a day? did you go through the deck just seeing the images?
