Hallo i’m still new to this 2 card system there’s question i want to ask How to distinguish cards that have the same suit and number. For example 2 :diamonds: 3​:diamonds:And 2 :clubs: 3 :clubs:

When you are memorizing using Shadow (or any other system where an image represents two pairs of cards) you can use a technique called “Variable Image Stacking” (VIS). This involves choosing a “primary” suit color that will be your signal to “stop.” (I’ll explain more in a second.) I chose Red as my signal color because red is the color of a stop sign.

To use VIS, you’ll be combining your images into scenes at consecutive loci within a memory palace. The number of images that these scenes contain will vary depending on the makeup of the suits within the pairs that are revealed.

If a pair begins with a black suit, use its image in the current locus’ scene and reveal the next pair. This pair will also be integrated into that same scene. If the new pair also begins with a black suit, add its image to the scene in progress, and reveal another. You continue integrating images into this one scene until you reveal a pair that begins with a red card. This is your signal to STOP the current scene. Add that red-first card to the scene, then move on to your next locus and begin a new scene with the next pair.

If you think about this logically, if a locus only has a single image there, it MUST be the “red-first” version of the card pair, because that is the signal to end the scene. If the locus has multiple images in its scene, the LAST image there represents the “red-first” pair and the images prior to that all represent “black-first” pairs.

By using this technique, the number of loci will vary for every deck attempt you make. On the extremes, if every pair you flip begins with a black card, you’ll be integrating every pair in the deck on a single locus. If every pair you flip begins with a red card, you’ll move on to a new locus after every pair and use 26 loci total. Those scenarios are astronomically unlikely to occur. On average, you’ll use between 13 and 14 loci, with the number of images per locus varying. (Actually did the math on the odds of needing any particular amount of loci per deck. Results here.)

The only “ambiguous” pair using VIS is sometimes the very last one in the deck. It will always be the “last pair” of a locus, so you may need to pay extra attention to that one and give it some kind if indicator if needed. Maybe imagine it bursting into red flames if its red-first. That way on recall, you can clue to its identity. Keep in mind, if you can recall the other 25 pairs correctly, then you’ll be left with just 2 cards for the last pair. Looking at those cards, you will be able to read them both ways and it should be obvious which is correct. The only time this fails is if you unluckily end with a same value pair. This is where you’d need the indicator because they would read the same in either configuration.

When a J or Q comes after a number card it must be preceded by an S
For example 2d jd can be S+K(suit)+n(2)+t/d(J)
So it can be “scant”

One more thing is that when J comes first it will become f/v and it precedes the suit’s letter and no “S” will be needed
